Why can't I use any kind of antifreeze in my Grand Am?

Posted by on

1 Answer

You use what the vehicle manufacturer designed it to use

Otherwise you have corrosion issues, chemical imbalance, etc, and can cause damage, over time to various items/parts

There are as of 2010,now 4 types of coolant, worldwide, in use.

What kind of coolant is needed for a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am?

just go down to your local auto parts store and buy your basic antifreeze -- you can buy a premixed 50/50,, but depending on where you live and the temperatures,, I would suggest buying 100% antifreeze and adding water to it,, if you look on the back of the antifreeze bottle there will be a chart to determine the correct ratio mix for your areas temperature.

What kind of coolant do I use in my 98 pontiac grand prix?

DEX-COOL® is an ethylene-glycol coolant that was developed to last for 150,000 miles (240,000 km), or 5 years, whichever occurs first. It is recommended that only DEX-COOL® be used when coolant is added or changed. It's a good idea to purchase a gallon container or two of DEX-COOL® from an authorized GM dealer so the correct antifreeze is always available. A 50/50 mixture of this ethylene-glycol coolant and water should be used, providing freezing protection down to -34°F (1°C), boiling protection to 265°F (265°C), and rust and corrosion protection for the system. A solution stronger than 70% antifreeze is not recommended and pure antifreeze will freeze at only -8°F (-22°C).

What type of antifreeze is best for my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee? (I just bought it few months ago.) Thanks, Edward

Edward. the recommended antifreeze is the MOPAR antifreeze. I think the additives are the reason that you want that antifreeze.

What kind of antifreeze do I use on my 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Best thing to do is go to the local parts store adn get antifreeze that works with all makes and all models and mixes with any color. Also might want to look at having your system flushed to get the old fluid out and have fresh stuff put in.

What kind of anti freeze do i use for 2000 grand cherokee 6 cyclinder

You must use a 50/50 blend of ethylene-glycol and low mineral content water. This is the ideal solution for Jeep Grand Cherokees within your year. Don't use all water or all antifreeze. You can also use Mopar 5 year antifreeze available at your dealer but it cannot be combined with any other type of anti-freeze so your old anti-freeze will need to be flushed out.

What kind of antifreeze can be used for 99 dodge grand caravan, I was told that it had to be a special kind of antifreeze in it. is this true?

you should be using an antifreeze that is ethylene glycol based in your van,the easiest way to tell which is which is the color,if you system is green, then aqdd green to top off,if it is full of yellow then top of with yellow, but if you mix them you coolant will turn dark and look bad.if you have drained the entire system and are refilling now,I would suggest going with the yellow.
