sounds cannot be read as they have to be heard
having mentioned that it is possible that the cat converter has suffered a failure and is blocking the exhaust
have it check out
have the fault codes read for any other possible reasons for the hesitation and noises

95 jeep grand cherokee muffler gets to hot

I have to agree with JL.. But, I would change the Cata. Converter. I belive the Cata. Convert. is old. Because, the Muffer ( New ) is hot! An I would give it an Old Fashon Tune Up. I know it do'nt it do'snt a Carb.. J.D.

Rumbling noise from rear right(I think) when stopped or in park. Doesn't happen consistently (but most times). Sounds like someone in a car behind us has a loud muffler.

It could be a collapsed muffler assembly or the exhaust rubbing on the underbody. Look to see if the rubber mountings have failed. Hope this helps.

I have 96 Caprice Classic...muffler has begun making quite a throaty rumble...I took to Monro Muffler...they said I need to replace from Manifold all the way to back....they want some $600. Anybody have...

I can't see your exhaust system, but I do recommend that you have them show you the "why" of it. Generally the front pipe and the cat last a long time and generally don't need to be replaced very often. If the flanges are rusted and have failed there are "wrap around" replacements that can be used without pipe replacement. Most common is to change everything from the cat back. As I said, have them actually show you what is wrong...or take it to another shop and without telling them the original findings, have them look at it!!! Since there is very little involved except a visual inspection, most shops will not charge or will charge very little for this.

How does it "sound like it's going bad"? It's aftermarket, and it isn't the same as OEM. It won't sound the same either. That doesn't mean it's bad. They might have left a gasket loose, making an unusual and loud sound.
