If a power steering pump locks up does it have to be replaced?

the power steering pump locking up is the reason ur serpentine belt broke. on front of power steering pump is a pulley which must spin freely. when this pulley locks up, things break...and yes u definitely need a new power steering pump.

How to add power steering fluid

There is a reservoir under the hood that stores power steering fluid. That is where you add the fluid. Most likely, yours will be located directly behind a drive belt pulley, attached directly to the power steering pump, and the cap should be marked for power stering fluid. It will contain a dipstick that has marks stating minimum and maximum fluid levels with the fluid either hot or cold. If you have to add to it often, you have a leak that needs to be repaired.

The squeeling noise you hear could be the bearings in your power steering pump, when bearings go bad they tend to make a squeeling noise.

02 mercedes s430 power dteering problem

Hi

Sounds like a new power steering pump to me !

Not much you can do, other than top it up !

Do you normally fill it yourself ?

Possibly, if it has been topped up with wrong fluid, this can give the same problem !

Good Luck !

Please give a FixYa rating please !

John.
