Question about 1995 Dodge Neon

4 Answers

Car troubles I have a 1995 Dodge Neon that quits running when it gets hot.But when it cools off it will start again.I thought maybe it was the ignition coil but I put a new one in and that did not help. Was wondering if anybody had the answer to my problem or maybe some suggestions.

Thank You very much. Was wondering do you think it could be a cracked head or a crack in the manifold?

My 95 Neon runs fine when it first starts up, but when it heats up, it starts missing and will hardly stay running. It is missing on different cylinders and running very rough. Replaced coil, plugs and wires, but to no avail. Any suggestions?

I have a similar problem. I understand the key off and on three times to find the code. My question is where online do you find what the code means? My email address is jams4t@hotmail.com. Thanks

Your neon has a on board diagnostic . try it and it will tell you the code' check the code on-line or in a manual. To do this you turn the key the on but don't start it then off again do it 3 time fast then count the blinks of the check engine light. The number of blinks is your code

I have the same problem, and it turns out, there's a gaping hole in the side of my container. Any quick-fixes, at least until I get paid next week?

Sounds like it could be an overheating problem. Have you checked your coolant levels? Could also be a faulty sensor, which would need to be diagnosed by a mechanic.

Got 2000 dodge neon will start when cold run good but when motor warms up won't start

Nikki is the engine light on, are there any codes, have you had a tune up or any other work done lately.when you say it won't start when warm(do you mean engine will not turn over, or does engine turn and refuses to fire.
If I had to guess failing fuel pump, they tend not to build fuel pressure when ran a while(warmed up) and when left to cool build somewhat better pressure.

I have a 05 Dodge Magnum I Drive it in like maybe 30 minute and it gets hot I let it cool off and it will start again

You need to check your coolant, and water pump, if ok then check your cooling fan. When the car gets hot, leave running, open hood and make sure fan is working

As I drive my 1995 dodge neon it starts to overheat but when I turn on the hot air and let it blow out the windows the temperature goes down and it happens mainly on really hot days, whats the problem?

The 3 most common reasons for this are:
1. The thermostat could be not opening all the way when hot. This is a cheap item to replace.
2. The radiator is full of scale buildup. The solutions are to remove it and take it to a radiator shop and have it cleaned or get a new one.
3. Radiator fan not running. Turn on the AC and see if the fan is running. It should run with the AC on. If not, it could be the fan motor OR the fan relay.

Cuts off in warm weather after about 10 miles

Don't rule out fuel pump. Had a 95 do the same, ran great when cool in morning then when it got hot in afternoon, it would quit. Wait 15-20 minutes & go again, sometimes got me home, other times a few more miles until it cooled down again. Luckily I had access to a fuel pressure gauge. Cool in morning had 49 psi, when it quit, 2 psi. Wait 20 minutes, 49 psi again. If you can drive it around until it starts to act up then run into a repair shop for fuel pressure test it will confirm it. If not, they may need it all day to monitor the fuel pressure & confirm it is pump. If your a gambler, change it & fuel filter. One thing I did get was trouble codes indicating a lean mixture, due to starving for fuel. Have you cycled your key to retrieve any codes yet?

TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER

Change the fluid and filter, use synthetic trans fluid, you may cure your issue this way, have you run self test on the trans for trouble codes?
