The part you are talking about is could a syncronizer gear. it has two parts to it. it usually comes in a package of all the syncronizers. This is a challenging project. you have to pull the transmission and completely dissassble it to replace these. lots of parts and bearings for the novice. anyway you should be able to get these parts at any transmission shop or dealership.
Good luck

'95 del sol can't get into 5th gear

Most likely the synchronizer is bad. Even gears with chipped teeth aren't really bad. Make a little noise maybe, but still work.

My chevrolet transport is no longer engaging gears, when i put it on drive or reverse gear, it doesnt engage

check fluid level in transmission . run the fault codes and look for a faulty TCM or torque converter clutch solenoid / servo

Manual Transmission 5 speed

check the drain plug magnet for metal bits. Mostly you can remove the rear extension housing with out removing the gear box and you will find a small gear on the cluster shaft ( bottom shaft) and a larger gear on the out put shaft ( tail shaft) . Check that the shifter fork is actually moving the larger gear or gear dog into 5th gear (Fork loose on selector rail) or check that there are still teeth on the smaller gear as excessive high speed under load will rear out the teeth

My 92 Nissan NX2000 coupe won't go into gear, it pops out and now it just grinds...what could be wrong?

Its not fluid levels and it is not syncro's. Its a defective 5th gear. Sorry to say man but it's shot. This is not an easy fix or a cheap one (unless you are doing it yourself). Looking at $400 just in parts. I had this happen to me. I have done a ton of research and found comprehensive information that has educated me on this common problem in these transmissions. What has happened is the teeth on the 5th gear have worn down to a point that it will no longer allow it to catch and stay in gear. Anytime it is put under any kind of load it will just pop out. Why does this happen to countless Nissan NX and Sentra owners? Faulty engine and transmission mounts. So it is also recommended to replace all 4 mounts in your car when doing this fix. Here is a Web address that will take you to a forum that will describe the problem, what parts need to be replaced, where you can buy them and how to replace them if you chose to do that. You will save yourself about $600 in labor. If you don't choose to not do it yourself you will at least be able to give the mechanic a detailed description of what is going on and how to fix it. Here is the web address. Good luck. http://www.sr20-forum.com/general-maintenance/18390-how-recognise-repair-5th-gear-pop-out-b13-b14-transmission.html

Chevy manual trnsmission

Is it going in gear, but vehicle just doesn't move, or you can't get it to go into the "reverse" or "5th" gear location? If you can't get it to go into the selected area (reverse or 5th gear spot) then I would guess you you will need to pull the top cover off, and slide the "fork" back onto the shaft. I have seen this happen before. I guess if my response wasn't helpful, I would elaborate a little more about your problem.

92 chevy s10 4x4 4.3L manual transmission no 3rd gear

Hi:

Your transmission has 3 shift rails...
1st - 2nd
3rd -4th
5th- Reverse

If your 3rd gear doesn't work , you have an internal transmission problem, such as a syncronizer, or similar fail... There is not much you can fix, without removeing the transmission.

Manual transmission grinds/crackles in 5th gear

The syncronizers and blocker ring are damaged some stores like auto zone have a super synthetic gear lube I had this problem in my 95 wrangler and the problem went away. Its going to be hard to find tranny parts for that car I just put a new tranny in from the junk yard with 70k miles for $200 its in perfect operating condition.

98 Saturn SL2, manual trans. No reverse or 5th gear.

most likely the gears are worn out or possibly broken teeth on the gear that usually happens when it pops out of gear or wont engage at all!

5th. Gear

Sounds like you may have bent a shift fork or your cluster gear has some missing teeth on it now. I would venture to say that is it a bent shift fork. This will require the transmission be removed to gain access to inspect and repair.
