Question about 1996 Pontiac Grand Am

1 Answer

1996 Pontiac Grand am hesitation

Grand am started missing. We have replaced the coil packs which is what the computer diagostics said the problem was and it ran fine. Started missing again and nearly died on the road before we could get it home and noticed after we turned the car off that the exhaust mid ways of the car was glowing red. Any suggestions?

What are cord packs, and culd this be a problem why my 98 Pontiac grand prix wont start

coils packs are a set of 2plugs that are fired by one coil.so if you have a 6 cyl you will have 3 coil packs.its unusuall that all coil packs go bad at once.your no start could be caused by an ignition module, crank sensor, computer, bad connections, bad wiring, even a fuel problem.there may be a code set in the computer that may help to find were ot start to diagnois.it will have to be checked out to pin point the area.

P0306 code on Grand Marquis 2002. Engine start to hesitate when it comes on. Usually when stop at red light for a while. Inyectors, check at lab. nice presure on every cylinder.spark plugs ok and coil pack...

The code P0306 indicates an engine miss on the #6 cylinder (2nd cylinder on the driver side) and in most cases this is caused by a bad spark plug and or spark plug boot. In some rare cases it could be a bad coil. I would start with replacing the spark plug and the boot.

I know you have already replaced the coil pack, but I would be more leaning towards the spark plug and/or boot, as these can fail and cause electronic leakages !!!!!

get back to me and let me know how you go !

Code reader was reading miss in #5.changed coil pack now reads random miss fire

Recheck the ignition module, The module is what the coil pack sits on and the wire harness may be damaged due to corrosion or broken wires. At worst, the module is bad it self and needs to be replaced. Good luck and hope this helps.

I have a 1996 grand am with a 3.1v6.. Starts great when cold but when the engine gets warm you can crank on it for 10 minutes with no start, unless you push the gas pedal about half way to the floor. then...

Check the fuel pressure regulator. Take off the vac line and check for leaking gas in the top of the regulator and the hose. If you see gas, replace the regulator.

I would say it very well could be a coil pack i have had the problem before.. I buy one and put it in all the spots till you find improvement if no improvement return the part... Could also be spark wires or plugs.. On mine i had a hesitation mis fire type thing was the mass airflow sensors intake was mashed down and sensor was dirty hope this helps..
