Question about 1993 Pontiac Sunbird

2 Answers

I have a 93 3.1 pontiac sunbird. I have replaced the ICM module/EGR valve ...thermostat and a coolant flush. New plugs and wires. The car only has a 105 000 kms on it and yet still runs a temp of between half and 3/4. The fan kicks on and it cools down to just above half. The car has a consistant slight miss to it when idling yet performs well while driving. It has failed an e test twice now. It has also had a fuel system flush and the intake has been cleaned out. Any ideas! Scott

Where is the ignition module. Can I get to it from under the hood? Should I replace the Crank module when I replace the ignition module?

Hi.

The ICM is located under the hood, next to the coil pack and spark plug wires. Here the part: Pontiac Grand Am Ignition Control Module (ICM).

If you ar having distribution problem and misfire check also the crankshaft position sensor. It signal is used to control coils and sparks.

I have a dodge grand caravan 2006 with trouble codes p0126 and p0406 what does that mean? and how can I fix it?

Hi, sorry I don't have a manual for your van but here is some general information for these codes.

P0126 Insufficient Coolant Temperature for Stable Operation:

basically, the engine is running cool. Check your thermostat to see if it's closing properly. If it is closed when removed, you may want to get a higher temp thermostat. The thermostat is usually in a housing bolted to the engine at the end of the upper radiator hose.

P0406 Exhaust Gas Recirculation Sensor A Circuit High:

This indicates the EGR position sensor signal is out of range. The problem could be the wiring or the sensor itself. Check the wiring first. If it looks good, consider replacing the sensor. I think in your van the sensor may be integrated into the EGR valve itself.

No spark at the plugs replaced ignition pack but no results thisis a 1992 pontiac sunbird 2.0l se

electric ignition module is bad, or maybe the safety shutdown relay, also check to see if the timing belt has snapped, it happened to me, lol replaced plugs, wires, coil, ignition module, and turned out to be the timing belt had snapped causing the safety shutdown relay to shut off power to the coil and fuel pump, good luck :)
