Question about 1996 Chevrolet Blazer

1 Answer

1996 Blazer The position of the dipstip you tried to help me with is the check for the trans/lock, it's filled with gear oil. I am looking for one directly to the auto trans. Should be red fluid. There are no other dipsticks besides the oil and power steering.

I got a manual for my Blazer and I was right. The stick is for checking transfer case oil, NOT to check the tranny. To check tranny fluid, you must check it under the vehicle at the transmission fluid fill hole............. Checked it and I am low. Thanks for all the help though.

No that is the trans if it smells and looks like gear oil you need a transmission trans for transmission lock is the position to lock down the stick in this 4l60e your fluid is just that dirty there is NO way to check gear oil from the top at all once again that is your trans fluid yes it should be bright red but if it looks like gear oil you most likely have waited way too long to check it...

How do you check the transmission fluid level on a 1991 Mazda 323 with a manual transmission?

U need to check if transmission oil or gear oil is needed for ur manual trans try to locate a dipstick normally on d top part of the trans otherwise look for threaded plug again on the upper sides of d trans and ur level would be reached when oil start dripping out of the plug hole in that case no need to fill. Good Luck

Trans filter change 1991 4wd s 10 blazer

I think our asking , how to change the filter in a 91 Blazer. This is not bad to change. On your trans there is an oil pan. It has about 14 bolts in it and they take a 13mm socket. Take out all but leave the ones in the corners in. Get a large bucket to catch the oil in. Lossen the frount 2 and let some oil out. Then take out all the bolts and be carefull you dont get coverd in oil. Because here will still be oil in pan. Drain and clean the pan and scrape off old gasket on the pan. Look up on you trans and you will see the old filter. Pull it out and replace with new one. It will take about 8 quarts to fill your trans back up. Hope this answers ya question.

1998 blazer 4x4. Not sure if shift solenoid issue or transmission control module. Truck died no engagement in any gear no fluid pumped. Thought old 4l60e pump quit (had a pump or converter whine when I...

Even if all the electronics were dead you still should have movement in some gear, usually reverse and 2nd. If you put the transmission in park [and have both back tires off of the ground a bit] can you turn the rear driveshaft by hand? If so then the transfer case isn't connecting the driveshaft to the transmission. If the driveshaft won't turn then you know it''s connected internally and can look elsewhere. Only other thing I can think of is possibly the front pump in this 4L60E may be damaged and not capable of pumping any oil. You could disconnect one of the cooler lines and see if it pumps any oil out with the engine running. No oil means no pump action. Hope this helps a bit and good luck!

I am no blazer expert but if only the second gear lights up, it sounds like the transmission either thinks its hot because of a bad temp switch or its low level switch is messed up. I would check all switches and systems on the tranny.

Transmission shifts after i reach 3000-4000rpms and let off the gas

A transmission service may solve this, check the trans fluid it should be ruby red and clear anything else and it needs to be changed along with the trans filter.

If it is an automatic, which I assume it is since you're looking for a dipstick, it needs a special fixture to add fluid(Dealer or foreign auto mechanic) or check level. If it's a manual trans, there is a check/fill plug on the end of the transmission behind the driver's side front tire, probably takes a 17mm internal hex head socket. Use 75W/90 gear oil, filling the trans until oil just starts to overflow through the hole.

Klunk thought it might be axle

if you think it is the differental, remove the upper fill screw with a 1/2" ratchet, stick your pinky in, if you do not have fluid on ur pinky when you pull it out, you need to put some gear oil in it, 5-w30 fluid found in the gear oil section at parts store is what it takes.
