Sounds like a problem with the alternator,or a ground

thanks alot for your quick reply!
what would be wrong with the alternator if i can start it up with the remote starter right after it stalls but when i hit the brake it stalls? and what do you mean by ground?

  • Tre Elkins Nov 09, 2010

could be an intermittent short inside the coil. no problem please rate me and come back and see us at fixya

  • Tre Elkins Nov 09, 2010

sorry by ground i mean like the main ground wire for the whole car normally it is bolted to the frame.

  • Tre Elkins Nov 09, 2010

it would stall because it overdrawes power from the car whenever you hit the brake because the alternator isnt producing enoough power to compensate for everything that the car is doing.

  • mohebmakram Nov 09, 2010

last week i changed the battery and they found corrosion in the fuel pump relay they cleaned it and the car was fine for a week until yesterday when it started stalling again
    still suspect the alternator?
i just wonder why it won't start with the key and it will start with the remote starter
sorry for bothering you with many questions

again it could be a corrosion with the fuel pump, or a link between the ignition and the starter, check for corrosion on the starter

Fuel pump going out or something else?

There are numerous reasons for a vehicle to stall at random. Is the check engine light on? If so, scanning for codes would be a good place to start. Having a fuel pump pressure test performed will let you know if there is actually a fuel pump/power supply issue causing the stalling

I REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP ON MY 2003 OLDSMOBILE ALERO BUT IT WILL STILL NOT START. wHAT ELSE CAN i TRY

Im not sure if you got your alero to start yet. But heres an Idea, The alero comes with a security feature that if you have 3 failed starts it activates. a good sign of this is while having the key turned does your security light flash on the dash. if so turn the key forward with out starting the car and leave it on for 10 minutes and then the security light on the dash should stop flashing. Now turn the key off and remove key stick key backin and turn over to start car. Did your car start ??

Last week my 2000 olds alero stalled when i came to a stop. Then my anilock brake, service vehical, and trac light came on. Changed fuel filter and fuel pump. It does it again today!!! Please help.

None of those lights having anything to do with stalling or fuel filter or fuel pump.
As for the ABS, etc, this is likely due to the wheel speed sensors not reporting properly. While one or more of them could be bad (wheel hub replacement), these circuits are notorious for poor connections, corrosion, or bad wiring due to age.
The wheels speed sensors can be tested before replacing. Start with getting the ABS codes scanned. This will tell you which sensors are having problems.
Before any of this, you should look at the other engine codes and address the stalling, etc first. Scanning the engine and looking at air flow, fuel trim, etc will guide you to the next step. Have you changed the air filter recently?
