Re: 2005 chrysler 300 base model
The best solution that i can give you is to pumping the brake while hammering the shifter with a mallet and yanking the shifter down (all at the same time). its should be enough if you want another answers here is a link: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_do_you_do_if_your_car_is_stuck_in_park

pull up and out on the small storage compartment to the right of the shifter, this will uncover a small pink lever...that is the emergency release. If that don't work...the problem is further down on the shifter and requires removing the console, more work, and some new parts. Good luck, i hope this helps.
There is an electrically operated lock out that prevents you from taking it out of park unless you are pressing on the brake. If the brake switch is bad, or the solenoid is bad, it will not release out of park. See if the solenoid at the shifter is getting current. If not, it is the probably the brake switch. If it is, then it is probably the solenoid. But you can always just remove the lock out also.
You don't need a shifter assembly. Inside your console is a small "pink" plastic lever that has a spring attached that locks the shifter in park. The small "pink" plastic piece where the spring is attached breaks off. Mine broke off at 45000 miles. Billet technologies makes a aluminum replacement for about $60.00 that won't wear out. The Chrysler forum has pictures and detailed instructions on the replacement procedure.
remove the rubber cover on the right side of the shifter. there is a pink tab press it down with a long screw driver if it still down not come out of park replace the shifter the interlock spring is broken. Hope this helps please rate if it does.
vehicle has a brake inter-lock system where depressing the brake pedal closes a pedal switch then energizes a solenoid in the shifter housing which will permit shifter movement(the pink lever is a manual over-ride in the event this sytem becomes inoperative). I would check brake pedal switch and a voltage signal to the solenoid when depressing which should isolate the inoperative component or missing voltage.
It may be the plastic pieces that are connected to the shifter, they have been known to break easily and render the shifter stuck in place. To check this part, you must remove the center console pieces and when you get to the shifter you will see two pink pieces of plastic, if one of these pieces are broken removing it will let the shifter move, but it will slide easily of course so be careful. The part is inexpensive from the dealer and easy to replace. If you need assistance removing the console without breaking or snapping your panels, get a service manual from Promanuals.net, here is link to your 2005 Chrysler 300. It will give you easy step by step instructions on removing and replacing.
