Question about 1992 Mercury Grand Marquis
There is a safety switch in the trunk. It is called an Inertia switch and sometimes when a door or trunklid is slammed it will trip. The location of the switch-its on the driver side of the trunk and there is a small cutout in the side carpet.
If you have Air ride the Inertia switch is usually mounted next to it. There is a reset button on it and you just press and hold the button down for a few seconds. The other switch for the Air ride will have an Off/On switch and it is not the switch you want. Before closing the trunklid, turn the Ignition key to the Run position. You should hear a little whirring sound, then try to start your car.
You can then shut your trunklid and do what you want. Its fixed. The switch has a Magnetic ball inside which makes contact for the fuel pump to work. On impact, the Magnetic is knocked loose and the power to the fuel pump is cut.
