Hold the ignition switch just off where the engine cranks after it starts, if it stays running you need to replace the ignition starter switch. This is the switch at the bottom of the steering column that the key cylinder operates via a rod. See photo below.

Brake lights stay all time without car being on

So they stay on when the car is turned off with no engine running?
I imagine this flattens your battery?
Or do they only stay on once the ignition has been turned to "on" even without the engine running?
Could be the pedal switch sticking in which case you would simply need to look under the dash behind the pedal and try and "jiggle" the switch, though if they only stay on once the ignition is on I would lean towards a bad earth for the globe socket.

First maybe try and disconnect the pedal switch to ensure that its breaking the connection properly and turning your lights on and off.

Depending how handy you are, you could remove the tail light and run an additional earth for the globe socket.

When I turn my car off the air conditioner still runs-I needed a jump the other day because it ran all night and wore the battery down.

OK, if the relay for the A/C fan is bad, then the radiator's fan will keep running after turning off the ignition. Also, if the fan for ventilation of the A/C in the cabin stays on after the ignition is turned off, the relay for that is bad.

Good luck on this repair.

It cranks up and cuts off

the anti theft system is causing it not to stay running the engine will run for a couple seconds and then the computer will turn off hte injectors. To fix this problem you may have to get a new "programmed" key for the ignition, a new ignition switch or the car may need a new ECM.

Radiator cooling fan stays on after car is turned off, new temperature switches fitted, new relay fitted,,, any one had this problem? Cheers,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,GIXXER TIM

It depends, how long is it staying on after you shut the car off and how hot is the temp guage when you turn it off? The fan circuit is separate from the ignition and is designed to run until the engine reads a specific temp irregardless of whether the ignition is on or not. Hope this helps.

Has truble starting and staying started

Sounds like a bad ignition switch. Not the lock cylinder, but the electrical switch.

Starts but quits as soon as key returns to run position.

My bet is that you have an open the fuel pump run circuit or the vacuum switch. Most GMs have a vacuum switch to 'see' the engine running and reduce pressure by cutting voltage. However, if your car has a turbo or supercharger, they use a relay that 'flips' to a resistive line which then cuts the power level to the pump. Get a good model-specific diagram and check it out.
