SOURCE: do timing chains need replacing after 100000kms on

If you are experiencing issues with timing (backfiring, dieseling, rough idling, power loss, etc...) your timing chain might indeed need adjustment or replacement. If your vehicle is working without issues it's highly unlikely.

When to change a timing chain on 07 tundra 5.7l

Timing chains do not need replacing unless broken, or overhauling is being done.
Timing belts are changed on a regular basis of around 60,000 miles, or per manufacturer's recommendation.

1999 ford expedition - needs a timing belt, but mechanics keep telling me that it has a chain and not a belt. I just need it done and want to know stuff like - how much time it takes, how much it cost's,...

No engine used in the Expedition has a timing belt, they all have timing chains, timing chains never have to be replaced unless they fail or the engine is being rebuilt. On this engine replacing the timing chains for each of the two camshafts (2) cost about $500.00

I have a Ford Explorer 1999. I have been told timing chain gards need replacing which are plastic. The motor need to come out to do front and back at $7,000 AUS.

Yes Ford Explorers are like that, The timing chain tensioners are plastic and need replaced with the chains. The engine has to be removed, please replace all chains and related parts at this time. This will save you money and downtime later. There are multiple chains on these Fords.

How to replace a timing chain 2000 chevy cavalier

I am familiar with that vehicle but generally with timing chain replacement, the engine needs full access for pulley and cover removal and in some cases the cylinder head requires removal.
Generally timing chains last so that they only need replacement at engine overhaul and it is not an economic proposition to have to replace a chain unless some relative degree of engine work is also required at that time.

Engine timing chains generally have a tensioner on them which maintains tension, but some chains can wear significantly and cause timing cover to be "ground away" because of "slop".

If the engine is making the noisy rattle of the timing chain against the cover etc, I would schedule a top overhaul (head, machine, test and valve grind) with the chain replacement dependent on mileage with the degree of action.

Some simple simplex timing chains (type of chain similar to motor bike chain) may be replaced without dismantling the engines but I would expect your chain would be a "duplex" dual sprocket type, these are most common.
These chains are not generally expensive but replacing them can involve a fair amount of work.

Good Luck and hope this helps, Others will have different ideas.

01 explorer timing chains

I may be comming off totally half cocked but on my Ford Explorer Sport I don't believe there are any "Timing Chains" on this vehicle. I just have a Serpentine belt that ties / runs everything together. My "older" vehicles had timing chains to where I pulled the grille, radiator out to gain access to the front of the block.
Funny thing is.......I had more of a headache replacing the spak plugs on my Explorer Sport than the Serpentine Belt. (Go Figure)
