My Volvo s60 battery died jumped got it started let it run 10 mind tried again now nothing

Sounds like 2 possibilities, A) your alternator is not charging the battery or B) your battery is pooched.

To check your alternator, 1) without the engine running apply a volt meter to your battery, it should read somewhere around 12 volts. 2) boost the car, and with the engine running test your battery again, it should read approx. 14-15 volts.

If it reads 15 volts, your alternator is fine, and your battery is suspect, if it only reads 12 volts when running, then your alternator needs to be replaced.

Alternator itermitaly does not operate. had alternator tested, they say its good.

Your battery should read 12 Volts when the engine is off. Once the car is running, the battery should read 13-14 Volts. This indicates the alternator is doing it's job. Clean your battery terminals and have the battery checked too.

yes sounds like a alternator problem check battery voltage with volt meter a good battery should read around 12.5 volts start car with car running should read around 13 to 14 volts if it doesn't read 13 or 14 volts your problem is the alternator or wires going to alternator (more than likely alternator)

My 2000 Ford Explorer makes a clicking sound (not a turning over sound) when I try to start it. THe lights, radio, and air conditioner seem to work fine. Once the car is jumped...which happens easily, it...

Check your battery voltage when the car is not running. Check voltage again as someone else holds the key to START. Check voltage again after you've jump started it. First reading sould be about 12.5 to 13 volts. Second reading should be greater than 10 volts, and last reading should be 13.5 to 14.6 volts. If first two readings are low, your battery is not charged, or won't hold a charge (defective). if the 'while running' test is less than prescribed, then your alternator is not putting out enough voltage to charge your battery and should be replaced.

We have replaced battery in car while driving and then comming to a stop it shuts off. Put in park then restart it runs stop again it stops again. What could this be? Car was running fine before.

Check your alternator. Get a Voltmeter and test voltage at the battery with the vehicle running. It should be about 13 or 13.5 volts. Then check it at the alternator. It will be the red cable at the back of the alternator (the side not by the belt) It should be 13 or 13.5 volts. If the battery reads less than 13 then check the alternator. If both readings are low but close i.e. battery=11.4 and alternator=12.5 then the alternator needs replacement. However if your readings are alternator 13.3 and battery 11.5 then you need a battery cable between the alternator and battery. Hope this helps.

Battery won't charge when car is on. Battery is fine. Believe it's a problem with the wiring

If the alternator has been bench tested and passed then you need to check the big wire for 12volts at the alternator. If you have 12 volts then you need to trace the other wire to the PCM. The charging system is computer controlled and its possible the computer is the issue. To diagnose this correctly go to mitchell1diy online and pay the ten bucks for all the proceduers and wiring diagrams. If the charging system light is off then try this. Charge up the battery. Then turn the lights on for a couple minutes to drain the surface charge. Then using a 12v meter hooked to the battery check the draining voltage while cranking. A good battery will maintain a 12 or better voltage even if the truck does not start. If it goes down fast then the battery is bad. Alot of times when a battery is tested using a professional tester they pass. You may need to remove the fuel pump relay so the truck does not start for this test since your testing the cranking amps. Also with the key out of the ignition and doors locked and the negative unhooked at the battery you can check for parasitic drain. Using a amp meter hooked up inline battery to cable you should have less than 1/10th volt. If any more then you have a component not shutting off. Pull fusses 1 at a time till you find the system thats the issue. Watch the meter as you pull fuses

When the Jeep was new the volt meter read 14 the volt meter reads 13 volts with a one year old battery. Since the battery is a 12 volt battery should there be any concern that the volt meter...

It needs to be looked at,hook a volt meter to the battery, and start the engine, turn the ac on high blower, and the head lights on,the alternator should be putting out 13.65 volts to 14.25 volts,if it is any lower than this, replace the alternator, now,if the reading is not the same as in the vehicles volt meter, then the cables, positive and negative need to be replaced, the cables get old,and corrode on the inside and break down, they do not carry the current as they should.Shuold you decide to replace them,go with a larger diameter cable, both positive, and negative.
