Where is the fuel filter located

Posted by on

  • JOHN DAVIDSON May 20, 2010

As IAFIXITGIRL posted the filters are located anywhere from the fuel tank to the injector fuel rails under the hood, most generally they are mounted under the vehicle nearer the fuel fill side of the vehicle and usually againt the chasis rail. They are a mettal cannister, stainless steel to prevent corrosion from both outside factors and internal fuel corrosion factors, some vehicle models have the filters mounted inside the fuel tank on very rare occasions, those require a bit more savvy and safety proceedures to replace, such as the tank must in most cases be dropped/drained to gain access to the fuel filters/electonic fuel pump sealed cover mounted generally on the top side of the fuel tank(where all the metal lines enter the fuel tank), also please be aware that the fuel system is under a lot of pressure, so to be perfectly safe be sure to open the fuel cap all the way remove the fuel pump fuse to insure the pump wont go on during the proceedure, also if possible it is always best to crank the vehicle over and run it dry of fuel while the electric fuel pump is removed, this will immediately purge the fuel system of its harmful pressures should you inadvertantly open a line and get yourself pressurized fuel in the face or worse yet sprayed on a hot exhaust pipe. Follow these steps as IFIXITGIRL and myself have pointed out to you all, and you should be alive and well after the fix.

Follow the gas line from the gas tank and you will find it since its located between the fuel tank and the Schrader valve. Looks like a metal canister.

Trying to locate fuel filter on 2003 ford explorer and in cab air filter

Your fuel filter is most likely, undeneath the car, left side somewhere in the middle, and kept in such a place that doesn't get hit by obstacles when off-roading.

Location of the PVC and gas filter on 4 cylinder 2003 Solara

The PCV and the fuel filter replacements are not going to increase you fuel mileage. What you should really consider is getting some good fuel injection cleaner into the tank, and get an "induction system cleaning". Those two items alone will address most of your mileage issues. The PCV does nothing for mileage, nor does the fuel filter. Also, for maximum fuel mileage, you should have the correct sparkplugs from Toyota in your car. "Aftermarket" plugs doe not perform very well at all.

Fuel filter 2003 malibu

The fuel filter is located on the fuel feed pipe, between the fuel pump and the fuel injectors. It will be a Metallic tube like item about 4 inches long inline with your fuel supply (feed) line. If you can lift vehicle or get underneath it, then find your gas tank, find the line coming from top of your gas tank and trace it out. Filter is uaully within a few feet of the gas tank.
