Question about 1999 Oldsmobile Silhouette

1 Answer

Van was taken to local mechanic, who hooked up his meter and it indicated transmission problems. He took off the pan and there was a few metal shavings and two springs. He changed the fluid and filter and put the springs back. However, he indicated that it would cost too much to put a new one in for the age of the car. Is this problem something that would cost a little or a lot??? He doesn't do transmission work. Thanks.

There are plenty of wreckers sites on the net, why not try one........some even give a warranty.and YES a NEW gearbox would cost a fortune, but you could buy a recon unit.your mech could even fit it for you.........

2005 ford focus code P0767 shift solenoid D circuit stuck on

Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level - Dirty transmission fluid - Faulty shift solenoid 'D' valve - Shift solenoid 'D' valve harness or connectors - Shift solenoid 'D' valve circuit is open or shorted
When the a transmission solenoid is stuck on, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced

What does it mean when I have metallic shavings on sensors of an 06 dodge caravan and van won't go forward or reverse

pull the pan off the transmission and check for mechanical failure as the metallic shavings are from something like a failing torque converter or bearings /shafts or oil pumps.

99 dodge caravan goes into neutral when it should shift to 2nd then it won't work in any gear. Turn ignition off then on and will engage (sitting still) in all gears but reverse. I can drive it

The following are the general instructions on the start of diagnosing any electronically controlled engine or transmission problem.

The engine and the automatic transmission (transmission control is only for automatics, engine is still computer controlled no matter the transmission type) in this vehicle are computer controlled and in most cases when a fault occurs a fault code is stored in the memory of the computer control module. There are exception to this, such as the Mass Airflow Meter and fuel pressure problems. What must be done is to have all the basic testing done such as a scan of the system for fault codes as well as a check with a live data scanner tool for engine functions that are not within range of normal, a trained technician is required to know what is correct and what isn't, then based on careful diagnostics done from a factory repair manual the correct part is replaced or the wiring repaired or the computer replaced (known as the PCM or ECM,ECU), which is very rarely the problem. Other basic checks must be done as well such as mechanical problems with the engine as well as engine state of tune and mileage on the engine. The transmission can have mechanical issues as well such as no gear engagement at all or a failed pump or other pressure related problems. Also engine mechanical problems can and do cause many drive-ability related problem such as rough idle and other symptoms.

1990 Ford F150 Transmission

The engine oil sending unit has nothing to do with the transmission problem you are facing neither does a drained battery,If the transmission fluid was low it will neutral out at idle and only engage very harshly when warm,so the level is ruled out,That dole valve noise is of concern that can be the transmission pump or the torque convertor,Just out of curiosity, the transmission pan its not smashed up is it?This is a long shot remove the transmission pan make sure the trans filter did not pop out.And since you have the trans pan out see if there is shiny brass or metal shaving in the pan if there is you are dealing with a internal transmission failure

Engine issues

You would have to repeat the problem with the scanner hooked up and someone who knows what he's doing watching it. If the check engine light came on then a code will be stored.
