I've had a new clutch, but this problem happened before the new clutch and is still happening after. Also sometimes if i am holding it on the bite for a bit i get a smell of burning rubber/ oil ?

When i dip the clutch it cut out

I just noticed this happening to me too, where come off the highway and rolling to a stop and depress the clutch to throw the car into neutral that sometimes the engine cuts out. I just though about something and it might fix the problem I'm going to check it out tomorrow. What I did was rig up a after market cold air intake to the throttle body; believe me its in no way professional but for a while it seems to be working great, until I just started notice my engine cutting out. My solution might be to put the stock air box back in the 325i and see if this thing keeps on happening. If it doesn't than I figured it out - its a air-intake issue. But if it's not that, then my mechanic will be getting the "Please fix me Car" call from me. He is great - I break the car and he fixes it.

My car keeps cuting out

its definitly not the lamber sensor or catalyst that wouldnt cause it to cut out just cause white/black smoke comming out the back. It could be a loose wire under the bonnet which might have been triggered by you driving fast in reverse you can check all the wires under the bonnet and make sure there all connected propaly do this while the ehgine is off and your engine is cold otherwise you could burn yourself

put an additional petrol pump in the fuel line ,they cost about150€ from the bosch agent ,connect in line and splice the feed from the pump in the tank ,that will cure it ,these cars suffer from a dodgy connection in the feed wires to the pump in the tank, they corrode and get hot in the connector head of the unit .An additional pump releaves some of the load and will keep it going evan if the one in the tank plays up .
