2005 Dodge Neon starts but dies right after?

Hi, I have 2005 Neon SXT which was running fine the other day. I went out to start it this afternoon and it starts fine but dies immediately after. If I floor it, the car won't die but I have to keep my foot on the gas otherwise it will.

I have no check engine light or codes, and it was running fine the other day, so I'm a bit stumped. All electronics come on and it's got plenty of fuel. I checked the engine and nothing looks out of the ordinary either and no fluids under where it was parked.

Any ideas?

I also have a 2005 Dodge Neon SXT and am experiencing the same exact problem. I had it towed to the dealership, which could not replicate the problem...so I drove it home and for the next 2 days, but then it did the same thing. Some are telling me it's the fuel pump, some the EGR valve...I'm at my wit's end trying to get this resolved because this has been an excellent little car to drive.

Last week this happened to me. It also happens when I go to the airport and let my car sit a few days. I found that cleaning the fuel system and replacing the plugs (what firestone recommended) didn't help.

I have had the same problem just last summer, during the hotter summer months. I had it towed to the dealer as well and they could not replicate the problem either. They said the computer scan showed a problem with the spark plugs and wires - a service that cost $300 at the dealership. I know that replacing spark plugs and wires takes about $50-$70 in parts and the time it takes to replace them is under 30 minutes. (Sounds kind of overpriced)

Anyway, I had someone else change them for just the cost of parts and I haven't had that problem since. (knock on wood!)

1989 Mazda b2200 stalled at a stop light . will start up but won't hold an idle for long it dies or it'll start up but dies as soon as you tap the gas pedal.

I don't know if any one else has a factory stereo or not. but one night while I was adding a satellite radio to my deck, right after I screwed the deck back into place I went to start the car to only find out it would only run fr 2 seconds even if I hit the gas. My problem was that with all my wires in the back of my stereo. some how it created a short. How that happened I have no idea due to all my wires are covered. After taking the stereo out with the wires intact, the car was back to normal. Except for I had to disconnect the negative battery terminal on the battery so I could reset the check engine light.

I took the Throttle body off and pulled the Fuel Rail out, then connected a Computer that i borrowed from Autozone. neons will give you engine codes by turning the key over a few times. I got two code 43's and a 55 code which is the end code. The first 43 is a Single/Multiple Cylinder Misfire but it does not tell you which cylinder. The stock PCM Info was very limited but the OBDII Reader I borrowed from Autozone Targeted it to Cylinder 3 and confirmed that the second 43 was a previous"pending" code for Cylinder 3. So, I knew that it was misfiring on the 3rd and I had already changed the Plugs & Wires and my CoilPack was still firing on all fours. AutoZone said it would not be the IAC but More than likely a Throttle Position Sensor and to go ahead and replace the CoilPack and Try New Injectors, I checked my Third Injector and it did not have an O-Ring for some reason. I had the same problem, had to hit the throttle to keep it started. I am going to try and finish tommorow.

It is the Intake Air Control motor (IAC Motor). Replaced mine and have not had any other problems.

I have been having the exact same problems in my '05, but mine doesn't start up fine. I have to hit the throttle to get it going. I was thinking it could be the IAC valve as well, so I might take it into the shop tomorrow.

I took my air cleaner and intake tube off, and the throttle body had a slight build up of oil on the blade and the surrounding surfaces. Some TB cleaner for the throttle body and IAC valve might do the trick... I'll let you know what happens.. KEEP US POSTED

I have a 2003 dodge neon sxt. Will start and run fine then drive for awhile shut it off then it just cranks won't start till it has cooled down

The 1st thing that needs to be done here is to have the PCM (powertrain control module) scanned for both active and stored codes as well as a running test.

Hi its me again. 2005 Dodge neon sxt. Auto tranny, put key in, turned it, started to crank for split second, all electrical went completely dead, no dome light, no head light, no dash light. battery was...

Ok, even if the battery is new, get a voltmeter and measure the battery, if its below 12v, thats the problem. That way you completely eliminate all these factors without a doubt. Also check negative wire from battery to the ground box and connections. It sounds more like a corroded terminal.

I own a 2005 Dodge neon SXT. Once in awhile a solid red circle pops up on my dashboard. What does this light mean?

The red circle means there is an intermittent problem with your vehicle security. If your car starts and runs fine it would be hard to diagnose until it wont start at all.

2005 dodge neon starts then immediately dies. There are no engine lights on. When I gave it gas to try to keep it going it died again and now won't even start. What could be wrong? This has also happened...

The first thing I would do is check fuel pressure. If you don't have a gauge shoot some carb spray into the throttle body while somebody cranks it over. If it starts and runs I would bet the fuel pump is bad. Check foir power at the pump to make sure the wiring is o.k.

How is fuel pressure released on a 2005 dodge neon sxt 2.0

Remove fuel pump fuse or relay, start engine till it dies, now there no more fuel pressure. You can now replace fuel filter or what ever you were going to do.

03 Neon SXT trouble restarting after being shut off

usually when this happens its either the: spark plugs/ignition coils; melted catalytic converter, or a blown engine. however it could be other things such as a bad engine temperature sensor
