Question about 2001 Isuzu Rodeo

1 Answer

Want to get it right the first time..

Ok...I have a 2001 V6 Isuzu Rodeo that, as of recently, has started acting up. Basically.. first thing in the morning (and i live in Ga, so it's not cold) when I crank it up and back out of my driveway, it akes about 5-10 seconds to kick into drive. Once it finally does hit drive I can hit the gas and there is what feels like a vibration in the rear axle. This only happens when I first start off from any stop. (not if I nail the gas while already going). Also, when I make a right turn....not a left....the car seems to kick out of gear for a second...then kicks back in. I first thought it was my rear axle...when it was just the vibration, then thought it could have been brakes sticking. Once the transmission started slipping and taking forever to go into drive ..I figured it was possibly low on transmission fluid However, there is no top-side tranny dipstick on a 1997-2002 Isuzu Rodeo. I've been to a transmission shop and told that they don't think the vibration is the tranny fluid..but perhaps the slippage is. Any ideas or solutions? Thanks for any help.

I had the same exact problem. Changed transmission fluid and all was well for about 2 1/2 weeks, now it's starting to do the same thing again. Car has about 107,000 miles on it. Mechanic thinks it might be time to replace the transmission, but another website mentioned something about a torque converter (?). Anyone have any ideas or suggestions about what it could be? Thanks....

Try checking the fluid level in the gearbox, rodeo dont have a dipstick so u have to undo the plug on the side of the gearbox just like a manual gearbox.if the oil is really low i suggest doing a full service on the gearbox, change the oil and filter is ideal for better results.

Diagram for to re-install Timing Belt Covers with spacers/shims for a 2001 isusu rodeo LS, 3.2 V6.

I am going to sound like a broken record soon but the best thing to do is go to your local parts store and buy an inexpensive shop manual for your Isuzu.
Cost you about 20$ but Haynes and Chilton puts out some good simple ones that use step by step instruction with reference pictures.
