Question about 2002 Volkswagen Passat

1 Answer

I have a 2002 VW passat wagon GLX 4Motion. the CEL was on.. Went to my mechanic and he siad that the catalytic converter is blown up and needs to be replaced. I got it changed. the CEL was not there for 2 days and is back again. I went to Auto parts and scanned the code, it reads the same code again after replacing my Cat. Is there anything I can do to get this problem fixed. I spent like 1500$ on it already.

I would first go back to the mechanic that did the work and complain that you spent $1500.00 to fix a problem and it was not corrected. If he is a reputable mechanic he will fix the problem at no cost to you, as he probably did not do all of his home work to find out what the problem was that blew your convertor. when a car is running correctly, a convertor will last the life of the car. Also I wouldn't drive this car to much before it is fixed, You stand a chance of burning out another convertor

Have a code p0431 on a passat 4motion

P0431 Warm Up Catalyst Efficiency Below Threshold Bank 2
The word Catalyst, means that the catalytic converter needs to be replaced because some of the warm up catalyst is not working initially when the car first starts up before it warms up.

Good luck on this repair.

Hi Looking to get the timing belt changed on my 2002 Passat GLX 4Motion. I have 145000 miles on the car. But after speaking with the mechanic its going to cost me over $1200. Not somthing I have available...

Jen... I have a 2002 Passat 2.8 V6 4Motion with 125,000 I just changed the Timming Belt, Water Pump, tensioners and thermostat. One dealer was charging me 1500 dollars and the other just 1000... I bought the parts myself thru www.germanautoparts.com and found a mechanic with experience, and he charged me 420 dolares. In total I paid something around 650 for the repair. In the end, my timming belt could last me more than 20 thousand miles more... but either way is a risk. If the belt brakes the repair will go for 4000 dollars to fix the engine. I'm in NE.

2002 VW passat wagon brakes

Check the level of the brake fluid, as the pads wear down the fluid level falls slightly and the sensor reacts and gives the warning, it may happen more as you are cornering and the brake fluid moves, try gently topping up the brake fluid it doesn't need much..

2002 VW Passat GLX AWD, stereo stopped working

HI,
Passats can be reset if the radio is pulled out and the fuse on the back is removed. Wait for 2 mins, reinsert the fuse and turn the radio on. If this doesn't work, please take it to the dealer for the unlocking of the code, for which he may charge you some fee.

Do let me know if it was helpful.

Kanu

Underperforming catalist

readings taken downstream (exhaust) with the O2 sensor are telling your computer that the catalytic converter is not doing its job well enough (it is reading too high an exhaust content of carbon monoxide or hydrocarbons) the solution is to replace the catalytic converter assuming the engine and its other management systems are performing healthy ....good luck
