Question about 2002 Ford Taurus

1 Answer

The cruise control quit a couple of times in the middle of a cruise setting and now won't work at all. At the same time as this happened (or very close to it) the A/C will now only give heat and the heater/AC seems to have no upper temperature limits. It just keeps heating and heating. The blower works fine and the fan speed adjusts as selected. My car has only 30,000 miles on it and has never had this problem before. Is this an electrical glitch or something major? Can I fix this myself? What can I expect to pay for a repair if a mechanic has to do it? Thanks.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Follow the hose from the cruise servo to find the leak. The two may be related.

Park brake light came on at same time that cruise control quit an no symbol in dash. told it could be the clutch spring?

brake pedal and clutch pedal movements are very sensitive for a cruise control so any movement of the pedal will cancel the cruise setting.

2004 Pontiac Montana Brake Lights, Pwr Window and Cruise all Quit

The same thing happened to my 2002 Montana minus the power window problem.

The brake lights and the cruise control are somehow tied in together.

I went to the scrapyard and ripped off a couple circuit boards from an old Lumina ($25 for the set) since there were no Montanas on site.

The problem seems to be when one brakelight goes the bulk of the current transfers to the other light and will blow it too.

Anyways you said you tried replacing the circuit boards and it did not work so sorry I could not be of more help.

Cruise control does not stay on after setting it.

Possibly a brake or clutch pedal switch fault. Both the clutch and brake pedal have switches to control various things like cruise.
