Question about 1999 Buick LeSabre
A check engine light comes on because the computer detects a problem with a sensor, actuator, or system that it monitors. It has nothing to do with fluid levels or filter conditions. Most of the time the vehicle will run fine with no other indications that there is a problem other than the check engine light being on.
There are literally thousands of reasons for the light to be on and hundreds of troubles that it could represent. Tryiong to narrow down the possibilities without knowing what trouble codes have been triggered by the computer is nearly impossible no to mention the amount of time it would take to check every device the computer looks at or controls to see if it is working under the parameters it is intended for.
The first thing you need to do is have the computer scanned for trouble codes. If you call around you should be able to find a local parts store that will do this for your for either a small charge or for free. If you happen to use Autozone DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THEY RECOMMEND THAT YOU NEED. Once you have the trouble codes post them here. We will be happy to help you further.
