Did you put gas in your car without shutting it off? If that is the case, you will have to get it reset by the professionals. It happened to a 2001 Ford Taurus that we had. I also heard or read somewhere that you can reset it yourself by removing the battery cables for a few minutes and reconnecting.

A check engine light comes on because the computer detects a problem with a sensor, actuator, or system that it monitors. It has nothing to do with fluid levels or filter conditions. Most of the time the vehicle will run fine with no other indications that there is a problem other than the check engine light being on.

There are literally thousands of reasons for the light to be on and hundreds of troubles that it could represent. Tryiong to narrow down the possibilities without knowing what trouble codes have been triggered by the computer is nearly impossible no to mention the amount of time it would take to check every device the computer looks at or controls to see if it is working under the parameters it is intended for.

The first thing you need to do is have the computer scanned for trouble codes. If you call around you should be able to find a local parts store that will do this for your for either a small charge or for free. If you happen to use Autozone DO NOT BUY ANYTHING THEY RECOMMEND THAT YOU NEED. Once you have the trouble codes post them here. We will be happy to help you further.

91 Dodge Dakota, truck starts fine. No horn or lights. Fuses checked and were OK. Please Help.

Check voltage and ground for any component you are missing? Any applicable fuses, check for voltage at the fuse circuit, use a testlight to check for voltage. Of course ground is important also for the particular system.

On my 07 dodge caliber a lightening bolt appeared between 2 lines and the check engine light came on but everything ran fine. Please advise. Thank you

Have a repair shop check for codes every time
any light comes on your dash

Then you know if any systems have a fault & if you
should continue to use it prior to repairs

When jump starting my 99 jeep GC I accidentally hit the negative post with a pos cable (hot) large spark and subsequently it would crank but not start. Sentry key light came on steady as did check engine....

Not sure, but if Sentry Light stay on, by shorting it, the anti-theft system stay on ! Unplug the battery for 30min's reconnect it, and try it again, alot of chance that the anti-theft system will reprogram and will function normally ! You can go to a Local Dealer with your Jeep they will reprogram the system and everything will be fine ! For the Check Engine, need a OBD2 Code Scanner or a Garage/Dealer Scanner to know the Code Stored in the PCM and it will tell if PCM is okay too !

Driving normal, at 80 kms, car seems to studder a bit, (gas wise) engine light comes on. Stop car, re-start, everything fine, no engine light, at 60 kms, fine, get up to 80 km, engine light comes on and...

First try replacing air filter if not done recently $30, next consider bad fuel put in fuel from major oil company from station with many patrons. Then you need to look at fuel delivery system including fuel filter and furl pump. But first try the 2 things mentioned.

Check engine light on, on Saab 96

You can reset the Check Engine light by using an OBDII diagnostics utility machine. However, I would highly recommend fixing the problem that is causing the situation, as you will have to continually reset the light in this manner every so often until the problem is corrected. Besides the obvious "tighten the gas tank cap fully" trick, usually, when a car seems to be running fine but the Check Engine light is on, it's one of the cars exhaust sensors. Common culprits are: The O2 sensor in the exhaust system, or a deficient catalytic converter. Neither one is particularly good news, as both parts tend to be a bit pricey. Keep in mind that your car will not pass its next inspection if the catalytic converter is bad. Good luck!
