If a problem happens 3 times in a row the engine light will come on. Then the code must be read in order to find out what needs to be fixed. Auto Zone will read the code for you at no charge, if you don't have a reader.
The Service Engine Soon light comes only when the engine computer control unit (called the PCM) senses a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system, it is not related to the oil change, there are about 200 possible faults that turn the light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.
My apologies for the delayed response. I am personally going back to answer your unanswered questions.
I do not know if you have the 3.8L (6-Cyl) or the 4.6L (8-Cyl) Engine, however I have included the information on the 3.8L and a Link for the 4.6L. I am pretty sure your engine is the 4.6L based on the LX Model.
For the 3.8L: Cylinders: (back of engine 3----------6 2----------5 1----------4 (front of engine) Ignition Connections: (back) 1----2----3 5----6----4 (front)
