    Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0731/P0781 indicates gear #1 incorrect
    ratio. DTC P0732/P0782 indicates gear #2 incorrect ratio. DTC
    P0733/P0783 indicates gear #3 incorrect ratio.



    DTC P0750/P0751, P1751 indicates SS1(shift solenoid 1) electrical
    malfunction. DTC P0755/P0756/P1756 indicates SS2 electrical
    malfunction. DTC P0760/P0761/P1761 indicates SS3 electrical
    malfunction.



    Possible cause:



    Internal Transmission

    Damaged solenoid

    Solenoid circuit open or shorted to power or ground

    Power circuit open or shorted

    PCM damaged.



    There is definitly some electrical diag that needs to be done. Hope this info helps

The 2004 Trailblazer will not go into forward gears but will reverse while in 2 WD. It will go into forward gears while in 4 WD. What's wrong?


First I would check the PowerTrain Control Module for any thrown diagnostic troubleshoot codes by using a code reader.
I am unsure if there is a separate transmission computer module for your vehicle. If there is, a code reader will be necessary.
I will assume that the "check engine light" or MIL did not illuminate or the 4wd or 2wd light flash since you did not mention it.
If the car can move forward and backward in 4wd, then it's not the transmission itself since power is transferred through the output shaft of the transmission to the transfer case.
I would think that 4-wheel drive mode is not fully disengaging-
Check the vacuum hoses for damage, crimps, or leaks
Check and test the vacuum actuator
check and test the transfer case switch
check the vacuum actuator cable for damage or defect
check and test the encoder motor actuator on the transfer case
Buy a repair book or shop manual specific to the year, make, and model of the car you are having problems with that offers descriptive troubleshoot and repair procedures with illustrations. You can purchase them as soft or hardcover books or electronic downloads. Here are a few publishers, Chilton, Haynes, Motors, etc. Do an online search or go to your local auto parts store.
Otherwise, if you are not savvy in automotive diagnostic & repair, I would highly recommend flat-bedding the vehicle to a reputable transmission repair shop that has ASE certified transmission technicians. The reason you need to place your vehicle on a flat-bed car carrier - is to avoid serious damage to the transmission.

There isn't one , transmission is controlled electrically . If it doesn't shift right have it checked for DTC's - diagnostic trouble codes . Does the speedometer work ? VSS - vehicle speed sensor , input speed sensor .

Troubleshooting an electronically controlled automatic transmission is simplified by using the proven method of diagnosis. One of the most important things to remember is that there is a definite procedure to follow.
Follow the procedures as written to avoid missing critical components or steps.
To diagnose a concern correctly, the technician should have the following publications available:
  • Transmission reference manual.
  • Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual.
  • OASIS messages.
  • Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs).
  • Wiring Diagram.
These publications provide the information required when diagnosing transmission concerns.
Using the Diagnostic Flowchart as a guide, follow the steps as indicated.
Preliminary Inspection
  • Know and understand the customer's concern.
  • Check the fluid level and condition.
  • Verify the concern by operating the vehicle.
  • Check for non-factory add-on items.
  • Check shift linkages for correct adjustment.
  • Check TSBs and OASIS messages for the concern.
Diagnostics
  • Vehicles that have power take-off capability will not have on board diagnostic capability when the power take off is in operation.
  • Carry out on-board diagnostic procedures key on/engine off (KOEO) and key on/engine running (KOER).
  • Record all diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
  • Repair all non-transmission codes first.
  • Repair all transmission codes second.
  • Erase all continuous codes and attempt to repeat them.
  • Repair all continuous codes which reappear.
  • If only pass codes are obtained, refer to Diagnosis By Symptom in this section for further information and diagnosis.
Follow the diagnostic sequence to diagnose and repair the concern the first time.
Transmission Control Switch (TCS), Transmission Control Indicator Lamp (TCIL)
The transmission control switch (TCS) is a momentary control switch. When the switch is pressed, a signal is sent to the powertrain control module (PCM) to allow automatic shifts from first through fourth gears or first through third gears only. The PCM energizes the transmission control indicator lamp (TCIL) when the switch is off. The TCIL indicates OVERDRIVE cancel mode activated (lamp on) and electronic pressure control (EPC) circuit shorted (lamp flashing) or monitored sensor failure.
Your best bet is to take your vehicle to a qualified transmission repair shop !

Timothy, Open circuit in electrical system, failed PCM/TCM, faulty or stuck shift solenoid, failed speed sensor. Have checked for diagnostic codes to aide in diagnosing and a good transmission tech. give estimate on repair.

Failed OBDII Diagnstic trouble codes P0761 and O1744 What does this mean?


code P0761-
Possible causes - Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid 3 valve
- Shift solenoid 3 valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid 3 valve circuit is open or shorted
P0761 FORD Description Shift solenoid valve 3 is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. When is the code detected? The P0761 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off code O1744- is not a code these are the ones I have found that come close

All these code's are to your transmission, your mech needs to do more then pull code's, he needs to look at date on sensor to transmission before opening.

P0740 - Torque converter clutch solenoid circuit

P0758 - Shift solenoid (B) electrical

P0785 - Shift timing solenoid

P0761 - Shift solenoid (C) performance or stuck off

I would try Trans - X first pores right in to trans.

Obd 2 codes p0761 p0420


P0420 - Catalyst System Low Efficiency, possible worn out cat converter, if truck is low miles may be sensor issue.

P0761 - Shift Solenoid C Performance or Stuck Off , at some time the transmission had a sticky shift (solenoid #C) solenoid, has the trans ever been serviced, if over 60,000 change the fluid and filter, this issue can be caused by a piece of dirt or clutch material from normal wear.
