Yes you can pull the head without pulling the engine. It is a whole lot easier to pull the head than pull the engine. And yes it will come out of the top.

Tips for a great answer:
Remove the passenger side kick panel using a Phillips head screwdriver. Pull the rug back from under the blower motor to allow enough room to drop the blower motor without the rug interfering.
Disconnect the electrical plug from the blower motor. Pull the rubber vent hose out of the blower motor.
Remove all the Phillips head screws securing the blower motor to the housing. Drop the blower motor straight down.
Install the new motor in reverse order of removal
