XK8 abs module

I need to replace the abs module in my 2001 XK8. I'm wondering how long the job should take and if I can drive the car once the module is removed

I had the unit replace on my 9007 XK8 by a local mechanic.  It took two days as one day was taken with delivery of part.  Replacement just take a little less than two hours.  It would appear there are two versions of modules, one if the car has stability control and one if the car does not.  My car has stability control.

I could drive the car with the module not functioning.  I did not have stability control nor the ABS function.

2000 XK8 needs ABS Module "Warning: Trac and ASC not available, dealership wants $2,500 for the job, any suggestions where I can get the work performed cheaper in the New York City area. Also how much does the part cost and how much labor involved? Any help would be appreciated

I have exact same problem on my 2000 XK8. ABS & Tract control lights on. Price is around $1200 for part plus labor. Does anyone have souce of used or is module rebuildable? Does anyone know what the OEM part# is? I've driven it for a year now with problem. Dealer told me it's OK, but traction control and ABS system is disabled.

I have a 1998 XK8 with the ABS light on also- the dealer said it would cost $2500 to fix it. Has anyone found a less expensive way to do this? How bad is it to just leave the ABS system disabled?

I had the same problem.

I have discovered that the ABS module can be removed (either by yourself or most garages):

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION
ABS CONTROL MODULE
Removal & Installation
Disconnect battery. Raise and support vehicle. Open LF caliper bleeder. Install pedal hold-down tool between seat and brake pedal. Depress brake pedal 2.3" (60 mm) and hold to prevent fluid loss. Close LF caliper bleeder. Remove ABS modulator cover. Remove washer bottle filler neck. Disconnect ABS wiring. Disconnect and cap modulator outlet brake lines. Remove ABS control module bolts and control module. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed system.
----

Once done, do a google on 'XK8 ABS Module repair'. A few examples in the UK:
www.ecuclinic.com
http://www.autotekelectronics.com

These guys will receive the module, repair it and send it back where the above removal instructions can be reversed.

Your car should drive as usual - except without ABS and traction control.

Cost is from $60 to $500 - depending on the fault. Either way, cheaper than a new module...

We have the same problem with our BMW. Dealer quoted close to $1500, with a one year parts warranty. Go to Module Masters at www.modulemasters.com.

They show detailed info on how to remove your unit, and will rebuild one for a 2001 XK8 for $150. The unit for our BMW is $300.

I have heard great comments about Module Masters. Well worth a shot!

Disconnected batteryt on 2001 MB e430. WHEN RECONNECTED BATTERY ABS IDIOT LIGHT CAME ON AND WONT GO OFF. HELP PLEASE!

If the ABS warning is on then the systems control module has sensed a fault in the ABS system and has turned off the ABS, you now have just regular non ABS brakes. The removal of the negative cable may or may not be the cause, the ABS module must now be tested for fault codes, this is done with a special scanner, any good brake shop or tire shop can perform this test..

2001 suburban. abs pump killing battery. abs disconnected. starting to kill battery again. removed abs fuse, can/should I remove the EBCM fuse too?

YOU HAVE TO HAVE VECHICLE TOWED IN TO A GARAGE ONLY THING YOU CAN DO IS TURN OFF RADIO TO KEEP FROM LOSING THE CODE, THEN DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE TO KEEP FROM DRAINING THE BATTERY.IF YOU DISCONNECT ABS BRAKE MODULATOR UNIT FUSE AND RELAY YOU CANT DRIVE VECHICLE UNTIL TOW IN FIX,YOU NEED DIAGNOSTIC EQUIPMENT TO FIX VECHICLE.NOT A HOME FIX.

I have a ford winstar and the O/D light is flashing and the check transmission light is on but that only comes on once you start driving. My Break light and ABS light is on all the time. My odometer does...

sounds like you need a speed sensor as well as an ABS module. it runs the speedometer, as well as inform on the wheel speed to make the ABS work, AND the transmission uses it to know when to shift.

generally do not drive it when the O/D light is flashing, it means an issue bad enough to cause serious damage to the trans.

Have a 02'suberban and once the truck is off the ABS pump stays on.Why?

remove the ABS relay from the fuse box under the hood. This will shut the motor off. Then you will need to remove the ABS module and hve it rebuilt,
modulemaster.com can rebuild it for alot less than a dealer replacement. You can still drive the truck while the part is out for repairs. Just protect the connector and valve body by wrapping it up.

This is a very common symptom for a failed ABS module.

1997 XK8 Transmission Failure. Will 2001 XK8 transmission work

I had a similar problem with my 1997 XK8. Apparently the transmission will not last much more than 100,000 miles. You need to replace the clutch in the transmission - cost between $2,500 and $4,000.

Check for bent wheel bearing hub. Beyond that, have a runout test done on the rotors while on the vehicle.

I have the same problem on my 1998 XK8

Seek the Jag-Lovers.com website for Dan Jensen's article on repairing the ABS Electronic control board (seems a solder joint becomes intermittent). This is a common trouble in XK8s... mine needed to be replaced recently too....

2001 suburban abs motor will not turn off

The ABS relay should be located in the fuse box located on the drivers side inner fender in the engine compartment. Lift the lid and check the location diagram on the inside cover to locate the correct relay/fuse.

A related issue may be a loose ground wire. There is one located on the top rear of the engine block. It is a bolted connection. Remove this bolt, clean the surfaces and replace. This simple step has cured many electircal issues on these trucks.
