I suspect either your starter or solenoid is defective - they certainly need to be tested. You'll need to remove them (they are an assembly ) In order to have them tested. First disconnect Negative battery cable. Raise vehicle on passenger side - you'll be crawling in just behind the front tire. Set vehicle on jack stand. . Before you go under, follow positive wire from the battery down into the engine compartment - it goes down on the passenger side, directly to the solenoid / starter assembly. Remove the 2 9/16" bolts from the starter , move starter slightly forward and rotate so you can see the wires on the solenoid ( 1 of which is the red { positive } wire). note which pole the small wire goes to - if there's 2, mark 1 of them with a piece of tape. Fish starter out and take to your local parts store for test/ replace.
Hope this helps!

Possible solution - This happened to me and my battery was dead in my key fob and also I needed an ignition switch because a piece on it was broken which therefore wouldn't turn to start the engine.

have a load test done on the original battery as it appears that you have a shorted cell that is draining all the power from the jump battery.

My 2001 Passat won't turn over, but the radio plays. It will start when I jump it off a portable battery. Is this a battery issue or something else?

The radio needs 12 volts to run, possibly as little as 10.5 volts, and at a small amount of amperage. A car starter is much more power hungry, and requires at least 12 volts at about 400 amps or so to start a car...minimum, and thats a small engine. Long story short. Your battery cannot hold a load. It needs replacing.

The whole truck won't turn on not even the lights and radio.

sounds like dead battery. did u try to jump start it. If u did all this it is possible one of the main fuses is blown. Check with a test light.

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus. My wife left the radio running with the ignition off for a short while. Now the car won't turn over, won't start, won't jump. There is one click when trying to s

The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter

2003 lexus es300 won't start... radio lights and windows work. Tried a jump start, still doesnt work...

Are you saying the engine cranks but won't start, or the engine won't crank ?
If the engine does not crank, you would check for voltage at the starter, the neutral safety switch, and the key switch as well as the ground connections.

Hi.

If it does turn over and electrical works, then the problem is unlikely the battery. You can try jump starting. If it cranks when jump-starting it may be a weak battery, starter motor or alternator, but I don't think that this is the problem.

Check if there is spark on all cylinders. Do a code scanning (this car is OBD1, you will need to do the scan at the dealer place or to find a BMW OBD1 tool- Universal OBD2 scanner will not work on a 1994 BMW). If the codes return misfire or mixture related errors check fuel pressure, check sensors and parts that determine the mixture (MAF/MAP, AIT, O2 sensors, IAC and EGR system), check the vacuum system for leaks and check the crank sensor.

Regards.
