This sounds like a misfire. Put the car in DRIVE and firmly hold the brakes down. Give it gas and you should feel the misfire.

How to remedy dtc code P1000

A dtc p1000 isn't a fault code, it basically. means you have to continue to drive you car until all engine monitors finish their test and no faults are happening. When you either disconnect your battery or had someone run a scanner test on it and clear any fault codes, it clears the memory of the p.c.m and monitors that watch certain systems on the car, o2 sensors, misfire, evap system, cat efficiency and others to make sure everything is ok.it has to go through 3 drive cycles and not see any fault for the p1000 code to go away..How long dies a drive cycle take? All cars are different, you have to drive above 70 mph for a certain amount of time, have to do no brake slow to stops a few times, maintain 35 for an amount of time and so on....at the dealership each tech has a sheet copied out of shop manual showing what we have to do to complete a drive cycle.sometimes you get it first shot, sometimes it takes a few trips.just 1 wrong and monitors will not pass..just be patient and continue to drive.Take it out on the highway and drive 10-20 miles and see what happens....happy drivi

Car is sluggish and shakes when gets up to 50 mph

sounds like engine misfire to me. but it takes a mech, driving to tell.
if engine misfires?
try getting a 60k mile full tune up.
open glove box, see opr guide? see service list, see 60k column (it repeats)
bingo.?
filters (air/fuel), fluids, spark parts. (generic list, RTM)
or login to alldata.com and click maintenance then full chart
then see all things in the 60k column, those.

While I was driving, my car started to hesistate when I press the gas while going between 65 - 75 mph. It sounded like it was going to shift gears but did not. Later, after the car was off for about 3 hrs...

It sounds like your car has a misfire. When your cars computer sets a code for a mis fire the check engine light will flash then remain on steady. The smell is most likely a rich fuel mixture because of the misfire.
