Question about 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier

2 Answers

My 2000 Chevy Cavalier is overheating sometimes. When it is overheating, the electric fan doesn't come on. I've brought this to a mechanic and he couldn't find a problem. It didn't overheat that day. Would that be a thermostat problem? The radiator is full. This problem is becoming more persistent. Thanks in advance.

Could be the thermostat or an engine temp sensor. I would change thermostat first. Cheapes and easiest.

There is a relay switch or a sensor. If when the AC is on and the fan does not come on then it is the fan. Sometimes they go out gradually and check to be sure all the wires are together securely. It could be that there is a loose connection to the fan motor. It happens all the time.

Its a 2000 chevy metro that overheated. there are no leaks and the coolant levels are full. its still overheating on short drive and smoking. is it a head gasket? cylinder? water pump? thermostat??

It could be a number of things. You need to have your cooling system trouble shoot. It could be something simple as a stuck thermostat or as extreme as a cracked head. You will need to find a mechanic that has a thorough understanding of cooling system operations.

Overheating 1999 chvey cavalier

My 2001 Cavalier was overheating, as well. We replaced the radiator cap, and this stopped the issue. Pressure wasn't building up to run fluid through the hoses, which you could check visually. Also, if a cap doesn't do the trick, and you've already checked that your radiator is full, you could get a new water pump installed. I bought one at a pepboys and it was around $30. Also, there could be a fan issue. I replaced my fan as well (the radiator cap was the last suggested fix, but it was the cheapest). The fan was about $10? Nothing too expensive in this group of solutions, though.

Why is my 2000 chevy cavalier overheating? can a wiring problem cause the car to overheat?

there is a relay switch for the fan if not that then. Turn your AC on and if the fan does not come on then replace the radiator fan. It is easy to do and cost about $20. I have had to replace this in my cavalier at least 3 times. They go out often.

I have a 2000 Honda with four cylinder engine. It doesn't overheat if the ac is on , but running parked it overheated and was gurgling thru overflow resevor. Noiticed the other electric fan does not come...

Check for voltage with test light at fan harness, wait till engine temp. is just above 1/2 way point, if you have voltage, bad fan assembly, not that hard to replace.

2000 chevy silverado 5.3 replaced the thermostat and water pump and flushed the radiator still overheating

Blow out the radiator core from the engine side with compressed air to get rid of bugs and other debris. Check the fan clutch if mechanical drive. If electric fan, make sure fan(s) come on when hot. You may have combustion products entering the cooling system. Check with auto parts supplier for test kit for same or check with a well equipped shop for a similar test. Make sure that both radiator hoses are not obstructed internally. Hope some of this helps!

How do I know if my jeep has 1 or 2 fans? (I have 2 mechanics who are arguing-meanwhile, my car is overheating.) It currently has 1 electric fan, but my new mechanic is saying that I am missing the other...

They all have two fans. Only part is, on yours, I can't remember if they both are electric or if one is mechanical (belt driven). I know that the inline 6 cyl and the four cylinder ones have one electric and one mechanical, and am pretty sure that on the v8's they are both electric. Either way, there is never just one.

Replace termostat in a 1998 chevy cavalier still run hot

Yes it does have a electric fan, mine went out on my 2003 and I just changed the electric motor itself. Autozone offered the entire fan with motor or they offered just the motor. I chose to replace the motor only because I knew the fan blades and housing was fine. I had to drop the fan down and take out the entire assembly from the bottom but overall the process was a 3 out of 10 on the difficulty.
