Question about 1998 GMC Jimmy

On my 1998 GMC Jimmy, I have disabled the DRLS by pulling the "DRL" relay. But now, when I initiate my brights, only the right side will come on.

On these vehicles you cannot disable the drl by pulling the relay, the system works throught a ground loop relay controlled by the bcm, you can try a separate ground to the right headlight

Troubleshoot drl gmc truck

You might want to start by checking the fuses associated with your headlights. If those are fine, check the headlight relay. You can do a search online to see where the relay is located on your vehicle.

Can't find 1998 GMC Jimmy Daytime Running Light Module

I could be wrong(it would not be the first or last time) but in your vehicle i think what you call the DRL relay IS the DRL module. By the way if you need to know something about the electrical system in a vehicle (especially GM) don't go to Haynes. They try to pack several years of vehicles in one book and that does not work well. If you want good info on your vehicle, go to your GM dealer and tell them you want to read the manual. They don't advertise it, but they are supposed to give you free access to the information. They will let you look, but will charge or not allow photocopying(depends on the dealers mood) of the material. You can write down all the notes you wnt!

DRL on 1999 GMC Jimmy

With the emergency - parking brake set ? Anytime the vehicle is running an the parking brake is off the daytime running lamps come on . That or the sensor on top of the dash is bad , or the DRL relay is bad or the BCM - body control module . Could have DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's stored . Hooking up a factory or professional scanner would make diagnosing this easy . Do you know what wiring diagrams are ? How to use a DMM - digital multi-meter to test electrical circuits ? Free wiring diagrams here
Enter vehicle info. year , make , model an engine . Under system click on lighting then under subsystem click on daytime running lamps . Click the search button then the blue links .

Preventing the headlights from automatically coming on

Pull the DRL fuse. DRL=Day time Running Lamps. That will disable it completely and lights will only come on with your switch. Want to keep the lights on automatic just not when started? I don't know.

99 chevy silverado 1500 running lights.....

Remove the fuse! The fuse box under the hood has the DRL (daytime running light) fuse. The underside of its lid should tell you which one. Either that, or just remove the bulbs from their sockets.
If ALL the lights (head, tail, dash, etc. are coming on all the time), then those aren't DRL's. There's a light sensor (little round black dome) on top of the dashboad in the middle front nearest the windshield. They sometimes fall down inside the dash (where it's dark!) and this triggers all the lights to come on when the ignition is on.
