Question about 1989 Ford Taurus
I don't believe the 1989 model had anti-theft on the key.
These came out in later years.
You will be OK to get another key cut to replace it.

The 1989 taurus does not have theft protection and you can replace ignition locks or do anything you want to. or even get keys made it wont be a problem
