By pass the cycling switch located on a/c acumulator and turn a/c on if works then you might be low in freon or have a bad cycling switch

Ac not working, air compressor clutch not engaging

Hi Adeyeri

Keep in mind that the Clutch won't engage for a few safety reasons.

Temperature inside vehicle
Temperature of compressor or pipes
Pressure inside pipes
Compressor jambed
Eg It's out of refrigerant Gas

You can momentarily engage the clutch by simply giving it +12v to the wire attached to clutch. Usually has a connector close by.
Or
If it has a Relay (click) in fuse box
You can by pass it with a jumper

A quick engage & disengage should allow you to detect possible problem.
But don't over ride the built in safety for more than about a minute.

Cheers
Hope this Helps

Air conditioning compressor on my 98 Chevy blazer won't engage. The AC is fully charged. The compressor

the compressor isn't getting the pressure for the clutc to maintain after disengaging the short by removing paperclip. check fuse, relay, and the low/ high pressure lines. if the compreeor doesn't since the correct amount of gas charge and/ or receives it the clutch wont engage not sure about a weak compressor if it may be a contributor. will check back later short on time. I just had mine fixed 2001 chevy 4wd. it was the relay and charge.

The pressure means nothing as far as the state of charge. You need to have the system completely evacuated and recharged with the specific charge weight for that vehicle. Only then can the pressures or anything else mean anything.

First of all check the freon pressure, if the pressure is low the compressor clutch will not turn on. The pressure should be between 30-40 PSI.

Ac won't get cold anymore power to compressor but won't click on clutch won't engage possible problems are compressor or evaporator what do you think?

Has the Freon been checked with a gauge to see if there is enough Freon to allow the system to work. Low or no Freon will not allow the compressor to engage. The low pressure switch is most likely activated due to low freon, and will cause this condition.

My 2002 neon's A/C blows warm air. The vent pressure is working well- but it blows warmer than the outside air. Can I fix this myself? What might the problem be?

If you are handy, yes you can. Most likely causes are loss of freon which would prevent the compressor clutch from being engaged and operating the compressor, a lack of 12 volts being applied to the compressor clutch because the a/c compressor fuse or relay has failed, preventing the clutch from engaging the compressor, or the compressor clutch itself failing. Easy test is to watch the compressor pulley with the motor running. The pulley will, of course be spinning, but the circular assembly mounted to the front of the pulley will spin with the pulley only when the compressor is engaged. There is a sensor mounted to the a/c line that prevents the clutch from engaging the compressor if there in not enough freon in the system. You could go to auto zone or checker and buy a can of freon r-134 with a hose for around $15.00. It is fairly easy to follow the instructions to charge the system. If, after allowing some of the can to pressurize the system, the compressor clutch engages then you can continue to charge the system. Cold air should start to blow by the time the can is empty. Or you can locate the a/c relay located in the fuse panel, remove its plastic cover and manually close the contacts while observing the compressor pulley assembly. If the clutch doesn't engage then the problem in probably electrical, a fuse, the relay or the electric clutch itself. Go to auto zone and check you their dvd on a/c repair for under $9.00. Hope this helps! Dano

The air condition will not engage when u turn it on but u can bypass it and it will engage tringt o find where the relay box is

If you are by-passing straight to the clutch you are by-passing the Hi and the low pressure switches. If it is low on freon the low press switch will have the compressor locked out to save the compressor from damage. Try a pressure gage - Look for a reusable can of freon - they will have a very good gage to tell you if the system pressure is low or good. Do that before you start looking for electrical problems. Can of freon $14.00, bosch relay $24.00.

most likely a low refrigerant condition and the pressure switch is telling the computer to shut it off so not to damage the compressor! check to make sure it has the proper amount in it! if it does check all fuses and the relay! i would jump the relay out to see if the compressor circuit is good and if so then it''s something from the relay to the computer. good luck

A/C - compressor clutch won't engage

Your A/C system has a pressure sensor. If the system needs recharged, the compressor will not engage.
