Question about 2000 Pontiac Firebird

My 2000 firebird is overflowing coolant from the reservoir it has a new radiator water pump thermostat there is no white smoke from the exhaust and the heat does not work its a 3.8 v6 thanks for any help

Hello Steve.
Exhaust gas is entering your cooling system.
The gases are creating pressure and displacing the coolant out of the heater core hoses..
This will also cause your no heat condition.
The pressure in the combustion chamber at the point of ignition is much greater than the pressure in the cooling system and will cause this to happen very quickly.
There are a couple ways to verify this.
(1) The first thing I would look for and is usually evident is a cleaner than the rest of them spark plug.
A little bit of coolant in the cylinder will really clean out the combustion chamber and the spark plug.
(2) If it isn't real evident at this point, injecting compressed air into each cylinder when both valves are closed will force itself into the cooling system on the cylinder with the bad head gasket.
(3) Because you are not seeing white smoke at this time I would leave a cooling system pressure test to the last check. A cooling system pressure test will only be around 15 to 20 PSI and may take a while for the coolant to show up in the cylinder.

Once you determine which cylinder is leaking you can then opt to repair only that cylinder head gasket. But I would recommend you do them both at that point anyway.
Don't forget to replace the thermostat at the same time.
Might be a good idea to have the radiator checked as well for restriction.

Do not continue to operate. Operating an overheated engine will cause the engine to fail.

After the engine has cooled,
Confirm that the engine has coolant.
Confirm that the reservoir is full to the mark
Start engine and confirm as engine gets warm cooling fan at radiator turns on

Confirm that the rubber engine belt is working
Put in car heater to full hot and blower on.
Confirm heat is hot from car heater.
If heater is not hot possible water pump failure or air in coolant system keeping the coolant from circulating.
Allow to cool completely.
Remove cap start engine and observe coolant flowing at or near cap. Observe bubbling or exhaust gases coming from radiator

Check for water in oil by pulling dip stick
  • White smoke from the exhaust pipe
  • Overheating engine
  • Bubbles in the radiator or coolant overflow tank
  • White milky oil
  • Significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks
If milky likely a blown head gasket

The engine is 4d33, now there is a heavy mixing of oil in the engine but no oil found in the radiator, when ur pouring water in the radiator it's not getting full whilst it is running


Blown Head Gasket Symptoms:
  • Coolant leaking externally from bellow the exhaust manifold.
  • White smoke from the exhaust pipe.
  • Overheating engine.
  • Bubbles in the radiator or coolant overflow tank.
  • White milky oil.
  • Significant loss of coolant with no visible leaks.

What does it mean if there is oil in my coolant reservoir


oil too low!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have some change your oil & filter immediately !!! drain radiator & coolant reservoir , refill w/ fresh 50/50 coolant , white smoke is not exactly a good thing ! it could mean coolant is mixing w/ oil , because of a possible leak from a bad gasket either from intake manifold or head gasket !!! water pump would not cause this ! I would bet on a gasket leak given the age of the car . 2000 ! 13 years old, how was it maintained, intake gaskets are cheaply made, head gaskets are made well ! so, my bet, goes to the intake manifold gasket !!!!!!good luck kristle !

My boyfriend has a 91 Toyota 4runner v6 SR5. He has replaced the radiator and thermostat. Also he has bled the coolant system several times. The truck is still losing coolant. If he drives the truck...


When engine completely cools remove coolant from overflow reservoir to the cold mark on the reservoir which is the lowest mark on reservoir. If you continue to loose coolant you may have busted block.

Coolant loss no leak


hi.

Check compression. If the leak is internal, then the most common cause is the head gasket. Water (or coolant) leaks internally through the worn head gasket reaching the cylinders where it gets vaporized. Symptoms are coolant fluid level going down, bad performance, loss of compression, overheating, white smoke because of vaporized coolant from exhaust, traces of fuel in coolant reservoir etc.

If head gasket is Ok and there is no overheating, then the leak is external. Check pump, radiator and coolant lines.

My s 430 has smoke coming from under hood after driving but not all the time temp gauage reads normal. I had oil and trans leaks sealed but it is still happening, what else could it be? Thanks


SMOKE UNDER HOOD COULD BE COOLANT LEAK FROM RADIATOR ITSELF OR CHECK FOR LEAKING TOP RADIATOR HOSE AND CHECK FOR LEAKING BOTTOM RADIATOR HOSE.LOOK UNDER THE HOOD IF COOLANT BOILING OUT COOLANT OVERFLOW JUG ENGINE OVERHEATING FROM BAD THERMOSTAT OR BAD WATER PUMP.CHECK FOR COOLANT LEAK AT WATER PUMP WEEP HOLE.IF SO WATER PUMP NEED REPLACING.ADD MORE COOLANT UNTIL LEVEL CORRECT.TRY LOCATE LEAK. IF CAR OVERHEATED AND BOILED IT OUT. SMOKE UNDER THE HOOD CAN ALSO BE CAUSED BY LEAKING VALVE COVERS WHICH CAN BE FIRE HAZARD IF OIL LEAKS ON HOT EXHAUST MANIFOLD.
