When was the oil last replaced? Sounds like it could be the oil breaking down due to age, or the oil pump lacking pressure. Try an oil and filter change, making sure you use the correct jeep recommended specification oil. hope this helps.

Oil pump or other issues
Cam bearings,etc
Bad sending unit

I would put a mechanical oil pressure gauge on it,to verify oil pressure.

Certainly stop driving it ,until you find and repair

I have a 2002 jeep grand cherokee lerado with a 4.0 my oil pressure is normal when i drive but when i stop my pressure goes low

A low oil level will cause this. If the oil level is fine, then you need to have a mechanical gauge to verify the pressure is really low and that you don't have a bad oil pressure switch. You could try replacing the switch first if you don't want to put an oil pressure gauge in the vehicle. If the pressure is indeed low and the oil level is normal then replace the oil filter to see if that brings the pressure back up. If the pressure is still low, remove the oil pan to check the pick-up tube for debris. If it is clear of debris then you'll be needing to replace the oil pump. Another possible cause of low pressure is a damaged rod or main bearing and would require the engine to be rebuilt.

2002 jeep grand cherokee, oil pressure guage to the maximum high limit. Oil level okay, Oil change mechanic says common among these cars. I'm still curious what to do. thank you. 6 cyl.

It may be that the oil pressure switch is faulty. Find the oil pressure switch and unplug it and see it it goes to the min. If it does I would suggest getting a new switch. Also, the oil pressure switch wire might be grounded out against the body or the motor somewhere.

My oil pressure gauge goes to the H

Not really , when you give it gas it creates higher pil pressure at higher engine speeds, when the engine slows down there is less pressure on the oil.

2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0L oil pressure gauge reading too high

if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start

Oil pressure gauge reads normal when first starts. as it warms up, gauge goes to zero. If I rev engine, gauge goes back to normal.

Two things...when it reads zero, is there any engine noise (tapping or knocking)? After you rev the engine does the pressure read normal at idle and function normally, or does it go back down? Either way, you should not drive the vehicle 'till you have a mechanical gauge (yours is electro-mechanical) put on there and the actual pressure is tested. The condition may be a bad sending unit, a bad bearing or possible obstructed oil pump screen. The repair is obviously different for each one and the price is as well.

High engine oil presure

Hi, I had the same problem, same vehicle (same year), same engine. I bought an oil pressure tester at Harbor freight tools for $ 8. I was trying to figure out, if the pressure is really high, or just the sending unit is defective. The tester after connecting it to my engine was reading correct pressure for this vehicle ( between 25-30 PSI when idelling), which showed that the oil pressure sending unit is defective. At Advanced autopart store they want about $ 47 for the sending unit, so I put the defective one back in place (still reading H). I'm planning to replace it after next pay check :o) Good luck.
