Question about 1984 Mitsubishi SPX Pickup

Open Question

I have an 1984 4x4 diesel pickup. The controller for the glow plugs is bad. I went to a mitsubishi parts web site under classic parts, they list the replacement part but it is no longer available. Do I have any other options for a different or after market part.

Engine is now being made by Kia (Mitsubishi sold the engine rights to them) may be able to go that route.

what country.? makers do use diffr. engines in diffr. countries.
what engine,(that be first on the list, to start)?
70 or 80 series LC>? just a hint.
the wiki list:
Diesel:
2.4 L 2L diesel I4
3.4 L PZ diesel I5
4.0 L 2H diesel I6
4.2 L 1HZ diesel I6
Turbodiesel:
2.4 L 2L-T turbodiesel I4
2.5 L VM HR588 TD I5 (Italy)[15]
3.0 L 1KZ-T turbodiesel I4
3.4 L 13B-T turbodiesel I4
4.2 L 1HD turbodiesel I6
4.5 L 1VD turbodiesel V8

which one.?
then learn the injector and glow plug controls. (books)

the "basics of Diesel)

1 bad glow plugs? (lots of ways)(or power or controls)
2 weak compression (a cold engine need max here)
3 or bad fuel injection. (or no air supply, clogge air filter, or?)

to solve problems you can do simple tests.
it's all in the manuals.
if you learn what engine you have, you can get all that facts
you need by googling just that.
who knows, it might save you $15 buying a book.

I own a Mitsubishi diesel Pickup Truck 2005. Just recently serviced. Had the Oil, Air and Fuel filters changed and also the Glo pluggs. When the engine is cold it stalls when starting. James.

2005 so this vehicle is common rail and as such is all electronic computer controlled and as such is beyond the means of any mechanic to sort out without the special software which is now encrypted on models from 2005 so iam afraid its a dealer only job

Typically, the glow plug light not coming on indicates that you have some bad plugs or poor connection. You need to replace the plugs and check the wire connections. It is interesting how picky diesels are when they aren't warm.
Hope this helps.

could be you have a few bad glow plugs or a relay for them or a bad glow plug controler. the glow plugs are basicly a direct short that creates heat that warms the air in the cylinder to aid initial start.they can be checked wiyh an ohm meter. remove the wire and place one lead on the wire connecter of the plug the other to a good ground.you should have good connectivity. if not replace the plug

Probably have one or more glow plugs bad...- There is a testing method, and I think they are easy to replace - when the temperature outdoors changes, you'll almost have to replace them, as you'll about never get a diesel started in the cold otherwise -...
