Question about Honda Accord

1 Answer

I have a 1994 Honda Accord and I had to break the passenger side outside door lock to unlock the door when I left the key inside. After a few drives, now it won't crank over and start. I think that the anti-theft system is being activated so it won't get voltage to the starter solenoid wire. I do not have voltage at the solenoid when I have the key in crank position and the starter is okay, it cranks when I apply voltage to the solenoid wire. What shall i check?

The Honda is a 1994 Accord DX with 4 cylinder engine. The key I am using is the valet key and it locks the front door and works on the ignition lock and keys. I will replace the door lock cylinder on the passenger side door. Do you think that the anti-theft is activated? If I replace the door lock cylinder, will that de-activate the anti-theft system? Does the anti-theft system prevent the engine from cranking and starting?

do I have to loosen or remove the inside latch assy? I have loosened the outside door latch , but, it seems that the linkages are not loose enough. Also, is the transmitter located below the inside latch assy? I am replacing only the door key cylinder. How does the transmitter operated?

i have replaced the right side door cylinder and connected the door linkages, but, the car will not crank. To check the antitheft system if it is causing the car from not starting, where do I bypass the relay ? You mentioned the relay is under the driver's side steering column, how many wires does the relay have?

Hi,
Have you checked that the transmitter which is attached to the door lock assembly, also make sure that the connector is attached to the door lock which you had to break off.
Let me know if you need more information, also can you send me the year and model, engine size of your vehicle.
Thanks
Jason

Yes, if you replace the barrel it will stop the antitheft system from causing your car from not starting.

There is a transmitter where the barrel is that you have broken and this is causing the anti theft system to stay activated.

Ok firstly you need to make sure that it is the Antitheft alarm, there is a security alarm relay which you can find just below the dash on the left hand side by the steering column.
If you bypass this the vehicle should start, if the vehicle does start then that will determine that it is the alarm system.
We can then look at the door transmitters, which on this model only seems to be in the drivers door, also we can make sure the alarm system is not faulty.
You will need to check voltage outputs, and signals coming form and going to alarm control module.

The relay has 4 terminals, you need to find out which one is live and which one goes to the stater motor. This is usually the straight up/down terminal and the top terminal which goes across ways.

1998 honda accord driver side door won't open inside or outside but it can lock and unlock.

The lock / unlock operations are performed either electrically or manually directly on the solenoid installed on each door, and has nothing to do with the opening mechanism. In all probability, the metal rod that goes up from the door latching mechanism to the outside and inside handle, has become unattached / dislodged from the unit. This requires taking down the inside of the door panel, in order to reach the latch, and its operating rods. Look elsewhere on Fixya, for instructions on how to dismount the door panel. I think i provided instructions for this in the past.

Doors not locking (but unlocking is okay).

The only time my doors don't lock with the remote is when a door is open. If your problem is mechanical it wouldn't unlock. Might be a sensor thinking a door is open. Does the other functions with the remote work like rolling the windows down or hitting the lock button flashes the light ? I can't lock my doors from the inside with the remote.

Passenger and driver side door locks are hard to open with key

Take a can of WD40 (the newer can) with the spray straw...carefully insert the straw into the key hole as far as you can...spray and use the key to turn the assembly..lock and unlock several times CAREFULLY so you don't break off the key..sounds like you just need a little lube on the lock assembly.

I hope this helps you and your son
