SOURCE: 1997 pontiac grand prix gtp power steering

I had this exact car and I had all the same problems your talking about, The pump although I can't tell you for sure is on the left side of the engine as your looking at it. If it is whining it is because it is low on fluid, also when topping it off fill it to the full mark while it is running. If it is foamy turn the steering wheel all the way left and all the right a few time to help get rid of the air. You may have to let it sit a while to let the bubble escape, check and do this again, it could be a bad pump also. The overheating problem I had with mine was a bad temp sensor for the computer. It has two temp guages and the computer uses on to activate the fan as needed. I also had another problem with mine, on the front of the intake is a small plastic elbow for a heater hose and this goes bad. Had to replace mine. Wasn't hard, and the part was cheap. Hope this helps you!

SOURCE: where do i add power steering fluid?

The resevoir is mounted directly on the pump, which is directly below the alternator. You can see it if you look closely below the alternator. You will see the resevoir cap, it is a little tight to get to, and to fill it you will probably need a funnel.

SOURCE: power steering

the power steering pump is mounted on the front of the motor, the pump has a lid which you unscrew to add fluid. if you cant find the pump follow the serpentine belt until it goes around the pump (large Pulley) with about a four or so inch long neck. Make sure you buy the fluid made for your vehicle.

Where do i put power steering fluid on a 2007 pontiac grand prix

Follow the serpentine belt on the front of the engine. One of the accessories powered by the belt will be the power steering pump, It will have a twist off cap with a dipstick or a sight window to show the power steering fluid level. Don't overfill the reservoir.

MOST likely you have low power steering fluid. I just did this on my son's car, and it is no fun, DO NOT try to check / refill while HOT! I burned myself, as the tank / dip stick is hidden UNDER the alternator , and hard to reach. Also, you will need a LONG funnel to get the fluid in!

Good luck, I hope it is not your pump!
