According to haynes beetle repair the code is turbocharger boost pressure control valve positive deviation. to trouble shoot
check the wiring, connecting pipes.using a hand held vacuum pump apply vacuum to the wastegate actuator,(with engine not running) check the actuator arm and lever for freedom of movement , disconnect the electrical connector from the boost pressure control valve. using an ohmmeter check the solenoid windings for an open circuit, the boost pressure control valve should measure about 25 to 35 ohms if excessive resistance or open circuit is indicated replace control valve.
a scan tool is required for a complete diagnosis of the system control circuits some may be rented from a local auto repair store hope this helps and norrows it down for ya

Hi Y me!

According to ALLDATA.com there are 10 possible causes for P1556.

1. Cold Start injector N108
2. EGR vacuum regulator solenoid valve N18
3. Air conditioning compressor interrupt
4. Fuel cut off valve N109
5. Wastegate bypass regulator valve N75 for boost
control
6. Glow plug relay J52
7. Glow plug indicator lamp K29
8. Relay J359 preheat coolant, low heat output(man
trans only
9. Relay J360 preheat coolant, high heat output(man
trans only)
10 Malfunction indicator lamp(MIL)
K82 Exhaust warning lamp, however K83 is actually
being tested by VAG 1551
If this code is accompanied by a loss of power, I would suggest removing and cleaning the EGR valve and the EGR port in the intake manifold... It has probably become clogged up with Diesel soot accumulation, which restrict the engine's airflow capability (strangles the engine!)

If you do this yourself, you'll need some good stiff bendable wirebrushes and a good solvent that acts on the carbon accumulation.

Hope this helps and good luck! Let us know if you have other questions...

Check engine light came on 2002 vw turbo diesel beetle?

well first off you need to have the codes checked and go from there there are many reasons that can cause the engine light to come on. when you find what codes are stored in it you can go from there. as for the turn signals most of th time i replace the emergency flasher switch. but it wouldnt hurt to check the fuses first.

What oil is needed for a 2002 VW beetle diesel for engine

I personally have used shell rotella 5w40 and nothing else since 2001. You can find it at almost any wal-mart, and napa can get it for you. Recommended viscosity is 5w40, with a commercial rating (ch, ci, cj...) and turbo approved.

Can anyone tell me where to find the glowplug relay, it's a 7 prong relay, on a 2002 vw beetle 1.9 diesel no turbo ? allready been under the dash and checked all the relays, none of which are 7 prong,...

Above the Relay Panel is the Auxiliary Relay Panel. Has thirteen positions in it.
6 across the top, 7 across the bottom.

Across the bottom the Glow Plug Relay is the fourth one over from the left. It is Number 10.

Check engine light is on

The check engine light indicates that the power control module, which is the computer that controls your cars engine, has detected some event that it is not supposed to. This could be caused by any number of things from a dirty air filter, bad sensors, or dirty spark plugs. You need a OBDI scan tool to read the codes from the computer to see exactly what event the PCM has detected. Once you know what the code is, you'll have a better idea how to fix it.

Any qualified mechanic will have an OBDI scan tool, and many places such as Auto Zone will read the codes for you for free.
