Question about 2000 Toyota Corolla

Open Question

My 2000 Corolla has a flashing seat belt alarm on all the time even though all the seat belts are clipped in. Where is the sensor or switch for each seat belt. Is it a normally closed contact or a normally open for alarm deactivation? I would like to solate which of the 5 seat belt sensor is causing this alarm. Thanks

SOURCE: retractable seat belt wont close

Is this a NEW seat belt?  Or a junkyard part... Per the Toyota 1988 Repair Manual - the belt is allowed to be pulled out at a tile of 15 degrees or less; and cannot be pulled out at over 45 degrees of tilt.

Your problem is the belt is not retracting.  The manual states to replace the assembly.  It also states: "Whenver installing a new belt assembly, verify proper operation before installation."

If a new part does not have proper operation; have it replaced. If this is a 'used'  new part - get a NEW seat belt.

Every time I go over a big bump in road one ,two or even three rear seat belt lights come on and then start pinging/ringing and do not stop until either I switch engine off or fasten rear seat belts.

The sensors in the seat detect weight and assume there are occupants in the seats without the seat belts done up and this then triggers the warnings. If you are carrying items on the seat that bounce when you hit a bump that may trigger the alarms. Even movement in the seat unit itself when you hit a decent bump could trigger the sensors.

Just keep the rear seat belts done up and you will not have a problem with false warnings.

Flashing seat belt light

There are sensors in some car seats that pick up if someone is sitting in the seat, when the car is started, the safety system will check that if there is a person in the seat, if so, the seatbelt has to be clicked to stop the light from flashing. I have found that if I have a heavy weight sitting on my passenger seat, the warning light will come on to say the seat belt is not fastened as it thinks someone is sitting there. It could be a faulty switch under the seat that is causing your problem.

In my 2007 Hyundai Accent, the seat belt light won't stop flashing and alarm won't stop ringing even when seat belt is buckled.

Check the belt latch,(the short belt you click in and push button to release). It has a sensor in it. Tap and shake it as it may have a foreign object in it. Look under the seat for the connector(s), and make sure they are pushed in all the way and that the wires aren't damaged. If that doesn't help, try disconnecting the connector. If the light and alarm are still on afterwards.....you have two choices. First, replace that part of the belt. Or, try running a jumper wire across the two contacts in the connector but I cant tell you that!!
