Question about 2001 Chevrolet Cavalier
I dont think you need new battery cables, no way! It sounds like the seleniod has gone or is going in the starter motor. The battery cables may just need checking over to ensure they have a nice tight contact with the battery and also there should be a second earth / ground wire to the gearbox and one to the car body, have a look around them for corrossion and ensure they are tight and clean.
Hope that helps but I cannot see how you would need new cables, watch you dont get ripped off because that does not sound right.
