Check for interference with the trunk hinge mechanism - something up forward may be keeping it from going all the way down. Also look for something in the latch mechanism that doesn't belong; you may need to use a flashlight and mirror to look at the hidden backside. A cracked, loose or bent part could also cause your problem.
Your latch might be in the closed position before you even close the door, try using a small screwdriver on the latch while pressing the release button, if it's stuck closed then this will open it to the right position so it will lock closed when you close the door. If this does not work, sometimes the problem is in the striker (the little tab that the lock hits when the door is closed, this usually has 2 small screws holding it in place, you should be able to loosen both screws & adjust the striker forward or backward so the latch will make better contact with it.
Really sounds like one of 2 possible problems. First, perhaps the door latch itself is broken, and that is unlikely, except that I am unfamiliar with that particular latch on that particular car. Second, it sounds like, if you were to take the door panel off, you would find the latch is locked because one of the locking levers is holding the door latch locked. There or 2 or 3 lever like things that affect the latch. There is a lever from the outside door lock that goes to the door latch. There is a lever from the inside locking handle that goes to the door latch, and yet may be one more. If any of these are "stuck" or broken, they will "hold" the door latch in the locked position. Be blessed.
Open the car door and pull on the release latch that you use to open the car door from the inside to get out. At the same time use a screwdriver to push up the latch on the side of the door. Sometimes the seatbelt gets caught on the door when you close it causing the latch on the side to close prematurely.
there is a spring inside the door lock that makes it work this spring is most likely broken try spraying lubricant on the lock just in case its binding ,but it seems like you will have to replace the lock mechanism
Maybe the chasis lock (the "U" shaped ring that is located in the base of the trunk moved forward, try to loosen it (not completely) with a star screwdriver, move it backwards (maybe you will need a hammer to accomplish this), then tighten it again and check if it closes. If it does just check if the door seals completely, otherwise you may have to untighten the same part and move it a bit forward tighten it again and check wich is the best position where it closes & seals completely.
I have shaved door handles on a 2000 chevy silverado and the drivers side door just recently stopped opening it seems like its completely locked out and the door is closed so i cannot get to the bolts of the latch assembly when i hit the unlock button it unlocks half way and when you go to open the door it relocks itself even if you manually try to unlock the door and hold the lock forward it still wont open
spray some lubricant (wd40 etc.) into the lock mechanism on the doors .. the switch may be jamming up ..
The front door entry system contains a latch that is fastened to the
inside of the door frame and is controlled by the exterior and interior
door handles. The latch contains a door ajar switch and a door lock
actuator. The front doors can be locked/unlocked by the remote keyless
entry (RKE) transmitter, the RKE keypad, the door lock control switch
or the door lock cylinder.
