First you need a report on what failed, high hc or co2 is fuel mixture, spark, intake,o2, or convertor related, nox is egr and engine temp relalted, best bet is take the readings and have a real time engine scanner hooked up, not a code scanner, any good mechanic can tell you by the readings what is failing

I passed my inspection but failed because check engine light was on have 2003 toyota sequeia can i turn off check engine light to pass inspection without fixing what the codes say are wrong with car

Some errors will come right back. Some may stay out for a while. I knew someone that got his check engine light cleared right before testing. It would come back about a week later. Don't know what it was.

2006 Suzuki Reno, bat ran down, recharged bat, now car will not pass emission control. How do I reset computer?

so easy like falling off a long
well you for got to run car long enough to complete all EPA
mandated monitors, all scan tools show this, completed monitors.
drive for 1hr. fast and slow, over 50 and then city
done.
or learn to scan
reseting the pcm is dead wrong now, if CEL is off
if you do it wrong , you fail every time.

is this hard>
1: CEL lamp off, driving. if not FAIL (USA)
2a: all monitors must be clear, ( 1 allowed not done in some states)
2b, drive for 1hr, end all this worry.

3a:? gas cap good. and no DTC errors for it and evap
see #1
in most states you have to pass a tank filler pressure test.
this can be easy to fail.

Alarm of checking gas cup

guess. gas cap.
guess, DTC 455? or EVAP failure?
why not stated, where you saw this
using a scan tool?
if you get EVAP fails
1: tighten the cap
2: reset the DTCs codes with any scan tool , $9 tool (ask)
3: drive 20 miles.

if no tools, then you must drive many long driving cycles, to clear it.
way 3 (bad way)
if you pull the battery to clear DTC,? big error that,
lost alarm settings, lost radio/nav codes, etc. read the operators guide
and see all words BATTERY and heed them, if playing with battery.
also read every word under DO NOT.
really

Try a new gas cap and drive around for a few minutes, then back to the parts store where you got the gas cap and have them scan the computer and see if they can clear the evap code.

Check engine soon light on. Adjusted gas cap, which was ajar. Will light reset?

In theory the light will reset after the system has passed a minimum of three self tests during 3 drive cycles but it can take several days for this to happen as the tests are run only under very specific conditions and may not run at all during an average drive. I would have the service code checked [just to be certain it was turned on due to a loose fuel cap and not something else that could be more serious] and if that was the problem the code can be cleared/reset at that time.

Our bmw 525i has the light on due to low temp of coolant. We need to get the car checked by the state emissions testor. I would like to reset the light and deal with the minor problem later Thanks

When they start the inspection, the states computer
will read that codes have been recently deleted. This
will get you an automatic rejection. I know it will in mass. I would stop by an inspection station and ask
if your engine temp. can keep you from passing.
But if you wan't to clear the codes. Go by an autozone/napa or advance auto parts. They will clear
the code for free. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Mil/check engine light smog test failed

If you are a DIY'er you can get a OBDII scan tool that connects to your laptop that can tell you the error code and allow you to reset your check engine light.

Check out http://www.fitityourself.netau.net/OBDII.html

Sometimes the check engine light comes on if you did not fit your gas cap tight enough. You need a code reader to find out the error code to help solve your problem.
If it is something simple (like a gas cap) and you do not want to get a code reader to find out what codes (problems) your vehicle computer is saying there is. You can try disconnecting the negative battery lead for 5 minutes. This should reset your check engine light. Drive and see how long it takes before it comes back on - this may help you pass the smog inspection...

How do i get the check engine light off? I have a 2000 chevy s10 pickup and i want to get the check engine light off to pass inspection... I hope ya can help me.....thanx

You will need a diagnostic tool hooked up to the vehicle and once connection is established you can reset the error light. But if you have to drive it for an inspection the on board computer may pick up the error and it will trigger the light to appear again.

P0442 check engine light code

The computer that read the code for you can also reset it.  If you don't have one, you can go to your local auto parts store and have them reset it for you.  This is what your code means P0442 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak).  This is what Causes it and possible fixes: CausesA code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
  • A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
  • A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
  • A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
  • Other small leak in EVAP system
  • Faulty vent o-ring seal
Possible SolutionsWith a P0442, the most common repair is to:
  • Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
  • Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
  • Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses
