I replaced the serpentine belt in my bonneville and it seems to have 5-6 inches extra.....what happened, did according to diagram

they may have given you the wrong belt. there is one for air conditioning, and the shorter one for no a/c. if you have the right belt. retrace to see if you goofed up! or is your tensioner for the belt bad. good-day! if it pushes on belt and belt is tight, its ok!

GP with 3800 V6 keeps shedding the serpentine belt.

You have got something out of whack there, take a straight edge, like a metal ruler or framing square and line up the pulleys, try to find one that is out of whack. Wiggle the crank pulley and see if it is loose. If the belt is off, wiggle all the pulleys to see if one is loose. One of the pumps, comp, alt, etc, is either bent or has a broken bracket. Is the tensioner tight? Too tight? It should be ok if nothing squeals. Hope this helps.

How do you adjust or relieve tension on a serpentine belt on a 1995 pontiac grand am?

you cannot adjust tension. but you can relieve to change the belt. it will be a square hole on the tension arm. a 3/8 drive ratchet will do the job. i have seen some that require a wrench on the pulley nut.

How difficult is it to change the serpentine belt tension assembly on the 1995 pontiac grand am with the V6? Does the engine need to raised out of the vehicle?

the engine does not have to be raised
.you need a serpentine is a flat bar with hex cut outs for the pulley.or a shallow socket and ratchet.
the tensioner need to be slack to put on the new belt. draw a diagram of the belt routing of the old belt. the crankshaft is easier put on from the bottom.there is not alot of space and the belt has to be twisted sideways past a few pulleys.

Had the serpentine belt replaced along with the alternator and now my car sputters.

The only thing that comes to mind is the belt may be set to tight.

Need help changing the serpentine belt on a 1995 grand am "pontiac"

I had to do this several years back and mind you it is not as easy as I would have thought. You will need to position a jack under the engine to support it because you will have to jack the engine up slightly and completely remove the upper motor mount on the right side to be able to route the belt through the pulleys properly. also if you wish the inner fender well could be removed to help access but you will have to remove the motor mount. Mine is a 1995 grand am gt with the 3.1 v-6. Hope this helps.
