SOURCE: Black smoke on acceleration diesel x-type jaguar

the inter cooler takes in unused fuel cools it and puts it back into the engine . so its black and oily it will be mucky around the crack. have a look with the engine running . you said you could feel air around the cam belt? around that area push and pull hoses and pipes etc . see if you can locate the problem that way. if you do . cean it off well . i did and used 2" wide tape to seal it up . if this helps rate me thanks joe

SOURCE: Noisy engine idle and stutter at low or high speed

I had the same problem (X-type 2.0d 2004). The stutter was cured on mine by getting the ECU fashed with the latest firmware. This is a known problem and the update does cure it (£28), I didn't bother with all the tests the garage wanted to.
The noisey engine at idle is the alternator belt. It resonates at idle and causes the noise, There is a modified bottom pulley, tensioner and belt kit, but it is rather expensive ~£200 plus fitting (around 4 hours labour). Mondeo's have the same problem but that kit doesn't fit the Jag.
Hope this helps

SOURCE: 3.0 jaguar s type wont idle

In addition to Davelee's advice also check around the inlet manifold for leaks. Idle the car and use a detector spray, spray around the manifold as the fault appears - if there is a leak in this area the spray will be dragged into the engine or minimise the leak and the change in engine note/idle smoothness - will be obvious.
The manifold often causes problems due to water leaks affecting hold down bolts, normally to the rear of the engine on V6.

Good luck.

SOURCE: jaguar s-type gearbox fault when on motorway

Check under the driver side fuse box which below left of the steering wheel if there is any dampness then it s screwing the ecu, this could be due to a seal leak in the window or holes near the axle.ALso the transmission needs fluid to be change as most jag trans fluid need replacing before 75k, clearing the codes will clear the engine light which also improve the cars shifting.

Hi, i have a Jaguar XF i do alot of miles aroung 25,000 in 4-5 months so i just wondered which tyres would last longer than Dunlop sp sport which i have on now.

fit the cheap chinese ones ,as good as anything .here in spain they crack on the sidewalls before they wear out so i use the cheapies ,mine are 16s but 98W speed rating ,expensive for a clapped out XJ6 1994 4.lt that only goes to the costa blanca jaguar owners meetings.

What weight motor oil should I use in a 1995 jaguar xj6

A 10/40 or a 20/50 will do nicely ,use the cheapest turbo diesel/petrol multigrade you can buy from supermarket as this oil being designed for diesels as well will keep inside of engine clean ,then change oil every 6000kms and oil filter every third oil change and it will last for ever ,mine has its a 94 XJ6 4.0 and i have had the cheap diesel /petrol oil in it all the time with no detrimental effect and i was mad enough to do 150mph up the A7 motorway and got clocked by a speed camera ,told them my son from aussie was driving it ??? got away with it ?phew ? automatic ban and prison here in spain

Had difficulty pulling away from a car park, massive loss of power resulted in car stalling when applying throttle and huge greyish smoke. I now beleive that this is the problem the resulted in the abrupt car stalling on motorway thankfully on the slow lane. It just stopped dead. What caused this

Power gone and heater light flashing (2.0D)

Sounds like your EGR valve has failed,They usually become gunged up and stick open or shut which will give you a loss of power. The valve is not the easiest thing to change but also not the hardest,The dealer will have to clear the trouble code from your car though....hope this helps

I had the same problem with 2005 estate it used to open when starting the engine but does not unlock at all. The problem is the the sensor on the glass tailgate handle where the wiper arms is. It will cost around £70 from Jagaur themselves as I have just got one.
