Back up light switch

The switch is called the PRNDLE and it is located on the lh side of the transmission. There is a known defect with the switches. The connector at the switch melts causing it to become inoperative.

2004 Ford Escape BACKUP LIGHTS both are completely not working. We have new bulbs and the fuse is new what could be the problem for the lights not working?

My guess would be the neutral safety switch on the transmission.
The switch also acts as a backup light switch when the shifter is in reverse.
I would check for power at the switch for the reverse light circuit.

All fuses are good - brake lights, rear running lights work fine. but the reverse lights won't come on when put into reverse. Any idea what might be going on? As far as I know the bulbs are still good...

You will need to either replace or adjust your backup switch, it is located on the transmission next to the shifter. Hope this helps, thank you for using FixYa!

When i put my 91' silverado in reverse my backup lights wont come on no matter how much i wiggle or move my handle

check to see if the back up light switch is located at the bottom of your steering columb near your brake pedal, possibly the switch is unpluged, or shorted out, or defective. and check your fuses also.

1991 honda accord backup lights dont work the fuse is good and the bulbs are good , so I'm thinking the backup switch is bad. If its on the transmission where is it and is it easy to change?

Backup light / Reverse Lights are located in the transmission case. It is not too hard to change, once you locate the switch can be done easily. I have enclosed pictues for your understanding4188b48.jpgacf7e34.jpg

My backup lights will not come on when in reverse; bulbs are good and fuse is not blown; where is the switch for the reverse/backup lights???

the reverse back up lights usually light up when the car is in reverse gear.., however get the wiring checked as you already have checked the fuse and bulbs.

My backup lights will not work when i put my 2003 pontiac grand am in reverse. The bulbs are new and all the fuses are good. where is the backup light switch located?

Looks like it would be in the trans. You can go to napaonline and look it up just search for switch.Once you find it you can jumper the terminals on the harness and see if they come on or if you have a ohm meter you can check the resistance in the switch when someone puts the can in reverse.(holding the brake ignition on but not running)

No reverse lights, bulbs are good. 1996 F250 5speed

If there is no power at socket, check for a blown fuse, if fuse is good still check it for power, you can check the b/u switch on the trani, I think your is part of the neutral safety switch,do a wiggle check( might be able to see a loose connection) do it with key on wheels chocked and/or E-brake applied, and the trani in reverse. the truck does not have to be running. Just the key in the run position. and you can check for continuity(good ground) at socket. Good luck.

New rear backup bulbs but they still don't work.

On the side of your transmission will be a switch with several wires coming out of it. This is your reverse switch that turns on your reverse lights and most likely needs to be replaced
