Question about 1986 Mercury Grand Marquis
The rotor,cap, spark plugs and wires,have nothing to do with it starting.
Starting well,if those parts were in really bad shape,maybe.
The coil should have been tested and only replaced, if bad.
I'am guessing,as you did,that you threw parts at it.
Without the vehicle or you telling us what you have and don't have,as far as testing goes!
I don't think the brakes are even related,just the way vehicle act, when your trying to do good work,they bit you
