The rotor, cap, spark plugs and wires, have nothing to do with it starting.
Starting well,if those parts were in really bad shape, maybe.
The coil should have been tested and only replaced, if bad.

I'am guessing,as you did, that you threw parts at it.

Without the vehicle or you telling us what you have and don't have,as far as testing goes!
I don't think the brakes are even related, just the way vehicle act, when your trying to do good work, they bit you

WILL START BUT WILL NOT CHANGE GEARS

I had the same problem. It turned out to be the parking brake cable. My mechanic fixed it and it was fairly inexpensive. Another symptom of this is that all your brake lights will be out, (when they were just fine before).

WHY CAN'T I SHIFT MY 1997 GRAND MARQUIS OUT OF PARK AND INTO ANY GEAR?

You may have a faulty Break-light switch. If the switch is bad, then it will behave as if you have no breaks afa the shift-lever is concerned.

Check brake light switch behind brake pedal remote start has to be wired into switch so vehicle will shut down when brake is depressed when put into gear without ignition switch turned on. possible bad connection on switch or wires are not attached.

I have a 1996 pontiac grand am the trans shifts fine in all gears but wont move seems to be stuck into park i can feel it going into gear and tries to move and trans isnt slipping it is a automatic when...

Tip on end of park rod has slipped and is staying in the park position. Put car in neutral and get out and rock car back and forth by hand. Tip will slip out and car should move. This will not fix the tip problem as they are crimped on and the crimp has slipped. I installed a master electrical switch and never put the trans in park. I start and stop car in neutral and use switch to shut of electrical. Costs $ 800 to fix trans as park rod is last item out of trans. Cheap solution for me as car is a beater and am driving until it quits. Best of luck.

Transmission lever will not come out of park position. It will come out of Park position if battery is disconnected but will go back to Park again if reconnected.

There is a solenoid that prevents the shifter from moving out of park until the brake pedal is depressed. There may be a switch located near the brake pedal that controls this solenoid. Apparently the switch went bad, you'll have to do some troubleshooting to correct the problem
