Make sure that there is power reaching the alternator through the smaller wire attached to the battery positive post.(attaches to the post on the rear of the alt.) On the back of the alternator you will see a small hole shaped like a "D". If you put a probe in that hole and ground the probe to the opening the alternator should charge. If it does you have a problem with the field circuit (one of the two small wires that attach to the side of the unit). There are a few different ways those are set up and I'd need to search for one of my old diagrams to give you that info. From what I remember one is power from the ignition switch the other is the field. (case may be marked)

The cable should be to the starter and alternator. The other wire maybe an add on, some one put in it. I would leave it off and see if something doesn't work in the cab

I have a 1982 scotsdale. There is not any charge going from the alternator to the battery. Any possible solutions? The alternator is wired to the hot post of the starter.

If you have tested the alternator and the regulator, look for an in line fuse or fuseable link between your battery and regulator.

I have a 1982 Chevy k 10 and the ignition coil keeps buring out. I have replaced it several times and it starts fine after replacement but then burns up within 15 minutes of running time and then the car...

Check your charging voltage. It should not be any higher than 14v (even that is high if it does not drop) If it's high, check the regulator in the alternator and make sure you have a good ground to the engine and even if necessary to the alternator itself.
If the coil is still giving you problems after correcting any alternator problems you can add a chrysler type ballast resistor to the power line to the coil. That should lower the voltage enough to keep it from burning out.

Battery not charging light comes on. new battery

I don't know what kink of car you have, but some will have a alternator fuse, also with a volt meter check voltage on big wire at back of alternator should have 13.5 + volt's, then check voltage at battery should have same voltage there also, do this with car running, if you do not have same voltage at battery less short between alternator and battery or bad fuse. There also some fuse links at starter on some car's.

Battery light comes on when damp

I would check belt to alternator pulley slippage when moisture is high. Belt might be due for replacement. Hope this helps

Slow turn over

If the alternator was bad the battery would run down and be dead in a very sort time, this may be a combination of a battery on it's way out and or a starter issue, when starters start to act up they do so more hot than cold, have the battery and charging system tested by any of the chain auto parts stores like Kragen, it is free, if that checks ok replace the starter, also make sure the cables are clean and tight, they also can be an issue.
