Question about 1996 Jeep Cherokee
There is a sending unit in the gas tank, which is a float which moves a variable resister, and there is the gauge on the dash. Either could be bad, but most often it is the sending unit. If you go with the sender, good sense mandates replacing the fuel pump while you have the tank out to replace the sender.
