I need directions on what everything is for on my instrument panel. i bought the car used and there is no book

Instrument panel fuse block is usually near the driver side kick panel or between it and the lower steering column .

REMOVAL
(1) Disconnect and isolate the battery negative
cable.
(2) Remove the knee blocker from the instrument
panel. Refer to Knee Blocker in the Removal and
Installation section of Group 8E - Instrument Panel
Systems for the procedures.
(3) Reach through the outboard side of the steering
column opening to access and disengage the combination
flasher wire harness connector retainer from
the instrument panel diagnostics mounting bracket
(Fig. 4).
(4) Pull the combination flasher into the instrument
panel steering column opening far enough to
access the wire harness connector.
(5) Remove the combination flasher from the wire
harness connector.
(6) Remove the combination flasher from under
the instrument panel.

Since you just bought the car, I thought that you might not be aware of the instrument lighting control. I apologize if you know this:
The dial on the dashboard to the left of the instrument panel controls the brightness of the instrument panel lights. Turn the dial to adjust the brightness.
To reduce glare at night, the fuel and temperature gauges dim when you turn on the parking lights or headlights. You then adjust their brightness when you adjust the instrument panel brightness. Turn the dial up as far as it will go to return the fuel and temperature gauges to their daytime brightness.

Yes, but you need a VAS or VAG-COM diagnosis scantool. Yours instrument cluster must be encoded according yours car, with this VAS or VAG-COM tool, because the car have an electronic immobilizer! You need also key's programming! You must know the old and the new (second-hand) instrument cluster pin codes! After that the instrument cluster coding adjusts the various combination of the on board computer according to engine type, cylinder count and country version!

Difficult to explain step by step. You need yo remove the instrument cluster. If youre technically minded its not very hard, start by loosening the Phillip"s head screws that is visible on the panel directly under the instrument cluster, give it a try!

Ok remove the under dash plastic panel on both sides. or just lower it remove the lower part of the instrument panel in the center, the CONVIENCE CENTER is behind that panel in the center you will need a TORX screwdriver and I believe that you also need to remove the ashtray i think but please if I'm wrong forgive me
