Problems with Rev's on my golf

When my cars parked up and the engine on, the revs start to bounce sometimes and feels like it's going to cut out.
if I revs the car it's fine then until next time it happens.
anyone got any idea why this happens?

What would cause temperature gauge bouncing ?

Sounds like the sending unit has an intermittent short to ground. Unhook the the wire from the sending unit, and see if the needle stops jumping around. If it quits jumping around, replace the sending unit. If it still jumps around, you have a bare spot somewhere on the wire and it is hitting ground which will cause the needle to jump. Cut out the bad part of the wire and splice in a new section. That should fix it.

1991 cutlass ciera 2.5 cranksensor location

The speedometer is not driven by the crank sensor. That drives the rev counter amongst other ignition timing things.

Sometimes when you hit the breaks the cars battery, oil, and check engine light will turn on and the car will shut off.\r\nAt times while your driving in will rev up to 3,000 rpm. Sometimes when in park...

Sorry but that isn't enough info to go by to come to a conclusion. Try bringing the car to Auto-Zone, they will scan it for free. The codes will provide you with a lot of info. Also tell me what the code digits were. That will help me help you. My first guess would be that your charging system is failing so on-board systems can not work correctly. Let me know how your making out.

WHEN YOU PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE IT WILL NOT GO ANYWHERE

Its the electronic shift control located just under the battery ontop the transmission replace or repair will solve the issue

it'll go into drive but once it reaches 1500 rpm it'll drop into neutral as a safety because at this rpm it is being told to shift gear and when it fails to do so it safely goes into neutral

it will go into reverse just fine and park and you can run all the low drive gears until you reach 1500 rpm then it'll cut it off

i pulled mine out re soldered bad components on the board to fix it but im an electronics engineer it may be easier for you to just replace it

Ford tick over problem

The battery could be slightly weak, making the computer go on the fritz, try a fresh battery!!!! The rev counters bounce often with a weak battery.

Leave feedback good or bad.

Rev counter jumps whilst idling and then engine cuts out

Your problem sounds as if the thermo sensor....which controls the air fuel ratio when engine is cold....is faulty. It is a common fault on this model.
This is not an expensive part, and takes only a short time to fit.
Good luck
